For now I need to get organized and get myself out of town. My parents are trying to marry me off to one of their rich friends' sons and no matter how many times I say no they just won’t back off. I’m at the point where I’m just fucking done with all their games and schemes. I want to live a life on my own terms and I don’t care if I have to be broke to do it. I’m going to get my freedom if it’s the last thing that I do. My phone buzzes in my pocket and I don’t recognize the number when I look at the screen. I’m tempted to say fuck it and ignore it, while I search for an apartment in Brooks. Trying to find something I can afford with what savings I squirreled away without my parents knowledge is shaping up to be a real pain. For some reason I hit the green button though. “Hello,” I answer, and I hear some beeping in the background before a voice answers me back. “Hello, is this Regina Todd?” the voice of an old woman asks. “Yep.” “Oh thank goodness, my name is Hilda Lake, I’m Madison’s grandmother and I need to ask a favor from you for my granddaughter's sake,” she says CHAPTER ONE MADDY “Mads, sweetie, I need you to open your eyes for me,” I hear Gina’s voice say, and I feel warmth on my cheek. I’m laying on something hard and my shoulder feels damp. What happened? My eyelids are heavy and I can’t seem to open them even though I’m cold. Did I pass out? I know I didn’t take any drugs that would cause this, so I had to have hit my head or something. “Maddy! Wake up,” Gina says sounding panicked and I want to but I’m struggling. “Gina you need to go to the hospital—” a male voice that I kind of recognize says. Neo. “I’m not fucking going anywhere until I know she is okay, so stop asking,” Gina tells him. Oh that’s right, my father… My father! “You can’t help her if you bleed to death, damn it!” Neo shouts but Gina doesn’t give him an inch. “Stop being so dramatic, a few stitches and I will be fine,” she tells him and I feel a hand on my cheek. “Please wake up, babe, I know you heard some things but I really want to explain the truth.” That’s right. Gina is being paid to watch me. Five years I thought we were best friends and all that time my family was once again manipulating me. Cracking my eyes open, I look around and see that I’m still laying on the bathroom floor. Gina and Neo are
