About the Author PROLOGUE Anthony DeVille ended the call, then turned to Cesar Mijia. “It’s done.” His greedy eyes rested on the open briefcase of money sitting on the hood of his car. Cesar walked to it, snapped the lid shut, and picked it up. To his bodyguards, he said, “Kill him.” He walked away as Anthony started screaming. CHAPTER ONE Coyote “Just do it,” my sister, Emma, says as she rolls her eyes. “I won’t,” her identical twin, Maddy, replies. “I respect Jaden too much.” Their heads are pressed together, their pretty, smiling faces filling up one of my monitors. “Stop it, both of you,” I grumble. I’m sitting in the back of a black van on a dark street in Reno monitoring a residential house that belongs to the enemy of Hell’s Jury, my motorcycle club. Hangman, the president of our club, isn’t aware of my current activity and I don’t know if he’d be happy or pissed that I’ve gone ‘rogue’. “It’s just for fun.” I hear the pout in Emma’s voice. I add my two cents. “I told you to quit hanging out with Jaden. The guy’s bad news.” Emma laughs. “Pot calling kettle. Wants his black leather cut back.” “Funny,” I snap as I return my attention to the other screen. I like to keep an eye on the Blackbeards, who are as deadly as they are stupid. They want to take over Nevada, which is Hell’s Jury territory, and they’re big enough to push the boundaries. Like our club, they have several chapters in the western states. Unlike us, their leadership is shoddy. The club here in Reno thinks they’re tougher than we are, which by numbers is true, but their president, Crip, couldn’t organize a riot, let alone carry out an attack big enough to do much damage. It’s a misnomer though, to underestimate them. They’re wasps, buzzing around, hitting us unexpectedly. Distracting us from our business. The twins giggle because they’ve managed to irritate me. Unfortunately, I rise to their bait. “How is it the same, Emma?” I can make Jaden dead if he hurts my sisters, though I don’t tell the girls that. “I’m not hanging around with wanna-be thugs.” They both laugh as though I’ve said something hilarious. “Right. Your gang doesn’t count.” Still Emma. They know how to get to me. “It’s a club. Not a gang. And the members are respectable bikers who could individually kick Jaden’s ass in five seconds flat.” Their Neapolitan Mastiff noses his way between them and pants at me. “Get down,” Maddy says sternly as she elbows him away. Emma all but ignores me as she says to Maddy. “I still think we should do the switch.” I squeeze my eyes shut to block out the light of the screens. “I could do a lot of damage to Jaden, but that doesn’t mean you can defend yourselves if the asshole decides he doesn’t like your childish pastime.” It’s after midnight and I’m thinking my informant gave me bad intel. It was a long shot anyway because the Blackbeards haven’t been near this property in months. Still, it’s worth following up on, because given the house generally sits abandoned, if any of the ‘beards make an appearance, something big is going down. Hangman doesn’t know that I’m hanging around on the enemy’s little slice of paradise, because he’d want to know how I came by the intel and I’m not about to reveal my source. I’m parked a block away from the two-story, three-bedroom house, at a curb next to a light standard with a conveniently broken light bulb. The two on either side have also had their bulbs shot out. I don’t need the house in my sights to know if anyone shows. Months ago, I rigged it with mikes and cameras, but nothing has set off the sensors for weeks. I’ve been sitting in the van so long my ass is numb, and I’m bored, which is why I made the mistake of calling my twin sisters. They’re about to turn 17, entering their last year of school and annoying as hell. But they’re also my heart, the only ones that matter to me in this world. They’re why I joined Hell’s Jury. They’re who I protect. “He couldn’t take both of us,” Emma says, and I hear Maddy in the background agreeing. She’s moved away from the screen. They’re getting on my nerves. “You are too old to be pulling the switch. Emma, colour your hair pink and get a tattoo with your name. Same with you, Maddy, but go with blue hair.” They
