It wasn’t cold, but she still shivered, feeling the breeze on her legs. Her skirt was short, on purpose, and the rest of her attire was similarly revealing. She looked up the road at the lights of The Cliffe Sauna and Massage Parlour where she normally worked. Too many ladies in there tonight, so Tracy was on the street. She knew it was risky, especially as she was alone, but she needed the money. The derelict, dark street was full of boarded-up shop windows, and cafés that had shut some time ago. A car streaked past, its headlights blinding her briefly. She raised her eyes to the car, wondering if it could be driven by a punter. The car slowed but didn’t stop. Tracy resumed her beat, walking up and down near the traffic lights, but not straying too far from the sauna. She should’ve booked her slot in advance. A good night’s work could mean several hundred in earnings. She was younger than most of the ladies in there, and she knew Karen, the owner. But the parlour was full up; Karen’s place was getting popular. Another pair of headlights pierced the gloom as a car turned the corner. It moved more slowly, and Tracy stiffened. The car stopped at the kerb. It was a black car, with dark tinted windows. The windows remained raised, and she couldn’t tell if the driver was watching her. Slowly, the window went down. Loud music thrummed from inside, then faded, as the volume was lowered. Tracy shuffled forward, bending to get to the window. She could see the dark silhouette of a man inside. “Thirty quid for half an hour, fifty for the hour. There’s a car park behind that sauna.” Tracy jerked her thumb to the lights behind her. The man’s neck moved a fraction as he glanced at the mirror. She couldn’t make out any of his features. “What do you want?” she asked, impatient. She didn’t want to miss other punters if this one was on the fence. He stared at her in silence, then resumed his forward gaze. “See ya then.” Tracy straightened. The window remained down. The music remained low. Tracy peered into the dark car. “You movin’ or what?” She saw the man’s neck move again, and a pair of invisible eyes stared at her in silence. Her skin crawled, and the hair stood up on the back of her neck. “Get in,” the man said. Tracy felt conflicted. This man was weird, and she was getting a menacing, strange vibe from him. He looked muscular and young, different from her usual fat, middle-aged men. “I’m alright. Sorry to waste your time.” She felt the dark eyes stare at her. “Fifty for half an hour,” he said. Tracy swallowed. That was a good deal. She could put up with his weirdness for thirty minutes. “Make it seventy and I’ll do everything.” The man nodded. “Get in.” Tracy got on the passenger side. She could see his face clearly now. Smooth-shaven, and young, with short, dark hair. He stared straight ahead, ignoring her. He started the car as the lights changed to green. With a startle, Tracey recognised him. “You? Why didn’t you just call me?” The man said nothing. Tracey raised her voice. “What’re you doing? I can’t be arsed with this anymore. Stop the car.” The car kept moving. Tracey clenched her teeth. She said, “Take the next left. That leads to the car park behind the sauna.” The man zoomed past the left turning and carried on down the road. Fear spiked in Tracy’s spine as she stared at the man. “Where are we going?” The man said nothing. His hands
