 “Did you know that my mother knows about Axel?”
 
 
 Angel’s eyes rolled. “She knows every fucking thing!”
 
 
 A closer look at her, and I could tell she had been crying. “What is going on?”
 
 
 Angel grabbed my hand, pulling me into the formal dining area. “This is fucking bad.”
 
 
 “What happened?” I whispered harshly, trying to get as much information as possible before I had to face my mother.
 
 
 Angel’s face flushed red as she pulled her phone from her pocket. “There’s a tape.”
 
 
 I frowned. “A tape? Of what?”
 
 
 Angel opened her IG and went to a known gossip site, Chocolate Date Nightz. They were usually known for their representation of black love and culture but lately, they’d been trying their hand at entertainment. It was all messy, nothing informative or productive. “I don’t know how they got it, or why they would record it but it’s of you…”
 
 
 I was becoming more anxious with each passing second. “Me what?”
 
 
 “Well, it’s your voice on it.” Angel’s eyes brimmed with tears all over again. “God, I fucking hate this for you.”
 
 
 I could feel myself get lightheaded as things slowly started coming to me. “Show me.”
 
 
 “Egypt…”
 
 
 “Angel, please,” I begged. “Just...just show it to me.”
 
 
 She clicked on the post, feeling vomit rise in my throat as I read the caption:
 
 
 
 
 
 Chilleeeeee Egypt heard y’all call her boring and said, “Watch me squash this shit!” Word on the street is that Ms. Egypt Aiko got herself a man and her and said man was getting freaky at her prerelease party a few weeks back. Someone sent us the clip, and I would give my left titty to see the video! That voice! MY GAWD IN HEAVEN!! It’s just audio but don’t play it in church honey!  Despite my fear, and the tears blurring my vision, I clicked play on the tape. It was dark, but I could tell it was the room we were in at the club. His voice was clear, and so was mine. My heart dropped into my stomach. “Someone recorded us.” My breathing became harsh, air rushing through my lungs suddenly. I turned, trying to find a seat before I passed out. I took a chair in the corner, holding onto the arm of it for dear life as I placed the phone on the table. “Someone…”
 
 
 “Everything is going to be ok,” Angel tried reassuring me. “Your mother is handling it.”
 
 
 My hand slowly came up to my chest, tears ruining my makeup as I tried focusing on breathing. My mother came storming into the dining room, causing me to stand. “Ma, I can explain.”
 
 
 Her nose twisted as she came to a stop in front of me, no words coming from her. She just looked at me like I was the most disgusting thing in the world. It made me feel even worse than I was already feeling.
 
 
 “I didn’t think anyone followed me,” I explained. “I wasn’t gone long and I just…”
 
 
 “You know, if you wanted to suck dick, I could’ve made that happen for you.”
 
 
 Angel gasped as my mother continued to glare at me.
 
 
 “Wh – what?”
 
 
 She shrugged. “If you wanted to be a prostitute, we could’ve saved all that money I spent on dance classes.”
 
 
 It felt like she reached into my body and ripped my heart out. “Don’t say that.”
 
 
 Her eyes rounded. “That’s what you do, right?”
 
 
 More tears streamed down my face. “That was my first time doing anything like that.”
 
 
 “Oh, bullshit!” My mother released a dark, evil laugh. “It didn’t sound like it. Sounded like you’re a professional and Mr., Morrison was a very pleased customer.”
 
 
 “No!” Angel shouted, standing between us as I stood there in shock. “You will not do this to her! You can fire me; I don’t give a fuck but you are not about to talk to her like that.”
 
 
 My mother waved her off before she turned to walk into the foyer where Axel was supposed to be waiting. Angel grabbed my hand. “Come on.”
 
 
 I shook my head, planting my feet so she couldn’t pull me. “There is no way I can face him. I’m so embarrassed.”
 
 
 “If she’s talking to you like this, just imagine what she’s saying to him.”
 
 
 God! This night was a complete disaster. I allowed Angel to pull me towards the door, where I could see my mother in Axel’s face.
 
 
 ‘I’m going to sue you and take you for everything your little hoodlum ass has!” She was screaming, veins popping out in her face.
