FAIRIES IN THE FOYER MAGIC INN PARANORMAL MYSTERIES BOOK TWO Fairy godmothers who mean business! The Beechwood Inn for paranormal beings is opening its doors once again, and the first event following the hiatus is a fairy godmother conference. When the godmothers arrive, I expect them to bust out their knitting projects and sip tea, while they swap recipes and share sweet stories of their cherubic charges. So, when the sitting room turns into a defensive magic combat zone and a boot camp style obstacle course is erected in the manor’s backyard, I’m more than a little thrown off. Then the curse gets unleashed. It’s all hands—and paws—on deck, if we have a chance of saving the inn from the ravages of the strange and potentially deadly magic. Luckily for me, I just mastered how to levitate a feather. So, I should totally be able to save the day. Copyright © 2023 by Danielle Garrett Cover by Cover Affairs All rights reserved. Especially on your day off.” A small, old box truck filled with neatly stacked rows of moving boxes showed evidence of the afternoon’s work. The overcast, gray sky revealed we’d likely finished just in time. “You’ve said that three times already,” Brandon replied as he rounded the back of the truck to stand beside me. Statistically, I was fairly tall for a woman, but Brandon had a few inches on me and was able to easily grab the strap on the garage-style door. He paused a moment before lowering it. “That’s everything, right?” My throat knotted, but I quickly swallowed it down and gave him a nod. “That’s everything.” Over my shoulder, up a wooden staircase, was my now empty apartment. The items I was taking with me to Beechwood Harbor were packed separately, in the back of Brandon’s SUV. The rest of it—the furniture, kitchen items, out-of-season clothing, and knick-knacks—would go to my newly leased storage unit here in Tacoma. Truthfully, there hadn’t been much to pack, as prior to Brandon and Nyra coming to help with the actual heavy lifting, I’d posted a series of classified ads, selling my TV, couch, and my largest dresser, allowing me to rent the smallest possible storage unit the company offered. Everything except the TV had been purchased secondhand anyway, so there was no true attachment to any of the items I’d sold or given away. The TV would be easy enough to replace when I moved to my next apartment. Whenever that might be. Nyra Burman bounced down the stairs, brushing her hands together and along the thighs of her dark wash jeans, a subtle reminder that I’d already packed up the bathroom towels and hadn’t thought to leave a roll of paper ones in their place. Nyra didn’t seem to mind, though, and offered no complaints as she joined us at the back of the moving truck. Instead, she flashed a warm smile and placed a hand on my shoulder. “You hanging in there?” Brandon glanced at her, then back to me, as though eager to hear the answer as well. The two agents from the Supernatural Protection Agency were new friends but had proven they were more than just supernatural babysitters since finding me in a frightened flurry only three weeks before. After all, everyone knows you learn who your true friends are when it comes time to move. Their presence was a bittersweet reminder. It wasn’t that my friends from Tacoma had bailed on me or doled out lame excuses to get out of helping; the truth was, I hadn’t asked them for help. Following the discovery of my suppressed, and slightly damaged, magical powers, and my subsequent stay at a magical safe house, I’d pulled away from my friends and acquaintances in the city. After all, it wasn’t like I could simply explain where I’d been. Additionally, the majority of them knew the gist of my financial situation, which shut down the option of giving a partial truth. None of them would believe I suddenly had the cash to crash at a beachside bed and breakfast for the better part of three weeks. Equally so, if I said I had been home, holed away, and skipping work for that same length of time, I would likely find myself with a room full of concerned faces in some kind of quasi-intervention. Keeping my secrets meant driving a wedge between my old life and the one I had inadvertently started, a process that culminated in the packed moving truck and the vacant apartment. “I’m fine,” I told Nyra, offering a smile that I hoped was at least a little convincing. Judging by the looks on the agents’ faces, it wasn’t. Exhaling, I folded my arms across my chest. My body temperature was starting to plummet now that we weren’t hustling up and down the stairs with armfuls of boxes and small pieces of furniture. The early December air was something of a relief as we’d tended
