Epilogue Wendy Fake Fiance' Rockstar Chapter One Tamlin “I know some of you know this one, so before we have to go, why don’t you all sing it along with me?” I smirked as I invited the sold-out stadium to sing one of our biggest hits with us as our last song of the night. As I looked out at all the lighters and cell phones raised in praise and the screaming fans shining them at us, it still felt so damn unreal to be here like this. How is this my life? The first guitar riff rang out with an echo across the stadium, and the cheering reached fever pitch, since it was a fan-favorite song. Toledo was one of the best places to end this leg of the tour because they had been a lively, enthusiastic crowd all evening long. It made my night and gave my band and me a natural high like nothing else I’d ever encountered could. The drums kicked in—a low rumble at first—and then became a louder, throbbing rhythm. The intensity built with the bass guitar chiming in, and we were ready to go. “Black hair, black boots, she was on the run…” I husked out, feeling my best and knowing that this was the last leg of the North American tour. After tonight’s performance, we were finished, with a long stretch on the road ahead of us and a few weeks to break before we headed to the European portion. It seemed impossible to have come this far. Only a year and a half ago I was still wondering where the next meal was coming from and playing hole-in-the-wall bars for pennies and meager applause. I blinked, afraid for a moment that it would all fade away. I’d be back home, stuck in a daydream that would leave me devastated as I wondered where my life was going and if I would ever make it big. It all started when I was just a small-town kid with an acoustic guitar my mother bought me at a yard sale. I loved the sound of it, and I would spend hours strumming away in my bedroom to escape the monotony of everyday life. Small towns like mine didn’t offer a lot in the way of distractions or entertainment that didn’t involve becoming a miscreant. It started as a hobby, but something about music just clicked with me, and by high school, I was getting unpaid gigs at coffee houses and events in the park. Soon after, I was playing at local bars and other events, gaining a small following of loyal fans along the way, who brought me further success through social media posts. Those early fans really helped me to find my footing in the rock genre and push my success, and I will be forever thankful for them. I never thought much of it at the time; I always just enjoyed the rush of performing for a live audience, however small it was. But, as time went on, I began to realize that music wasn't just a small-time gig for me; it was a passion and a necessity. It was a lifestyle. And so, with nothing but a pipe dream and my old guitar in hand, I set out on the road to pursue my dreams of becoming a full-time rock star. It was a tough road, filled with long nights of travelling, playing at empty bars, and sleeping in the back of my rusty van. It was so lonely, having no one to share my dreams with, no real home or friend to lean on. But even in the toughest of times, I never lost sight of my ultimate goal. I’d held on strong to the image of success I’d built for myself, and I did whatever I had to so I could take the next step in the right direction. Slowly but surely, I began to make a name for myself in the music world. Even when some people in my life didn’t believe in me or what I was doing, I still prevailed. I signed my first record deal after years of struggling, when the label producer found me in a dive bar with a backup band, I’d thrown together over just a couple of weeks, and suddenly my music was being played on radios across the country. With each new song released over the airwaves came more and more fans, and before I knew it, I was selling out arenas and playing to crowds of thousands. My head spun with how quickly it all happened, especially after the slow, painful crawl to get there. I couldn’t believe all the attention. I was so proud and, in a way, vindicated. Playing for such a lively audience was a feeling that I couldn't even begin to describe—the rush of adrenaline as I took to the stage, the roar
