Or maybe it isn’t that difficult at all. Maybe I’m the one whose making it hard for myself. I guess I’ll never know the answer to that. As of right now I’m sat inside an airplane watching people scurry past me, rushing to their designated seats in a hurry.A blonde-haired girl carrying a small infant. An elderly couple walking hand in hand in the narrow pathway between the seats. A group of students with video cameras in their hands. It’s fun to people watch. Wonder what people’s stories are. You get a brief look into strangers lives whilst also diverting your mind from your own life. I think it’s brilliant. “Welcome abroad to British Airways. We are glad you chose to fly with us tonight. This flight is going from London Gatwick to Newark Liberty, New York.”The flight attendants announcement fills the speakers on the plane, making everyone fall silent, but half way through her boring speech I zone out and stop paying attention.I don’t need an additional reminder of what I’m about to do. Moving across the world usually isn’t that big of a deal for someone who actually knows what they’re doing and has some sort of plan. Me? I don’t have the slightest clue what I’m doing. For me, moving wasn’t exactly an easy decision. Especially not when no one knows that I’m about to do it. I turn my head to look out of the small oval window beside me. Crew workers are picking up passenger suitcases and CHAPTER ONETHE FIRST STEPValentina ONE MONTH LATER "Do we really have to go?” I ask my new roommate whilst silently hoping that she tells our taxi driver to turn this car around and drive us back to our apartment. I ask my new roommate whilst silently hoping that she tells the taxi driver to turn the car around and drive us back to our apartment. I’m incredibly lucky I found Erica because I don’t know how much longer I could have afforded sleeping in a hotel. Initially Erica was looking for someone she knows, but she ended up taking a liking to me and asked me to be her new roomie. The only downside to having Erica as my roommate is that she can be very persistent, just like she’s being right now. Currently I’m trying and failing to convince Erica to change her mind about this stupid party she’s dragging me to. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good party. In fact, there used to be a time in my life, when I lived back in London, were going to parties were a big part of my daily life. For a while they helped me forget the part of my life I wanted so desperately to avoid. But by coming to New York, I was supposed to be starting a new life and not reliving old habits. And to add to life’s list of shitty situations, searching for a job this past month has had me drained of any possible energy I could have right now. It’s like looking for a job became a full-time job itself. Going out is probably the last thing
