Chapter One“Higher, Mommy!” Shahzy screeched and flapped her crimson dragon wings faster. “Shahzadi Tnyn, get your scaly butt back down here!” I shouted. It came out more like a roar since I was in my dragon form too. “Aw.” Shahzy dropped back beside me, but I don't think she would have complied so easily if her father and new uncle weren't flying with us. And her Uncle Sever was also in dragon form. As an Angel, King Severriel of Heaven could take any shape he wished and since the rest of us were flying as dragons, he decided to give it a try. He didn't flounder on his first dragon flight as I had but instead caught the air mere seconds after he leapt off the ledge of Craos-Teine's courtyard. He'd gone with a gold dragon. With Raza's and Shahzy's crimson dragons and my iridescent crystal, we made a flashy quartet. Of course, we would have attracted attention whatever color we were, but since most of Unseelie knew there were only four Dragon-Djinn on the planet of Fairy—Raza, Shahzadi, and Raza's cousins—and that Hana was a bronze and Kader a black dragon, our colors were more startling than our dragon forms. Unseelie Fairies came out of their homes to wave at us, but their grins quickly fell open with astonishment. We'd have to make an announcement later, but we were currently on a family outing to the beach. Back when I'd thought I was purely human, I hadn't been a fan of beaches. As an Irish girl, I burned easily and anyone who's ever had a sunburn knows that it sucks. But after my fey blood was awakened, that stopped being an issue. Of course, in Fairy, there were worse things to worry about at a beach than the sun. On the whole, fey marine life was magical and a lot of it was dangerous, but at the top of the watery food chain were the Sea Dragons. They're divided into two opposing courts, one located in Unseelie waters and the other in Seelie. The courts have a truce in place thanks to my intervention and a smackdown from Danu, but no one expected the truce to last, least of all me. In the Bàsmhor Sea of Unseelie, the Court of the Nine Sons ruled, and out of the two courts, I trusted them slightly more. They had helped Raza win his throne after all and saved a lot of lives. Still, if I didn't feel so secure in my magic and position, I'd probably stay out of the water entirely. It didn't matter that the beach we were headed to was thousands of miles away from their Coral Court; there were just as many raths in the water as there were on land. Which meant the miles could be crossed in a heartbeat. Oh, and the Sea Dragons are only at the top of the food chain because of their higher intelligence. If we were to base it on strength alone, they'd be taken down a few notches by the other monsters of the deep. Generally, those monsters stayed in the deep, so we shouldn't have to worry about them in the shallows. Hopefully. The beach we were headed for wasn't that far from the Unseelie Palace of Craos-Teine and so was in a warmer region of Fairy. Which meant warmer water. It also had sand, real sand instead of tiny pebbles. I actually prefer the pebbles because they don't stick to you, but sand is more comfortable to lie on, and when you're coated in scales, you don't have to worry about it sticking to you. As soon as I shifted back to dragon form to fly home, the sand would be a goner. “We're here!” Shahzy cried and started to descend. “First she's up, then she's down,” I muttered. “Shahzy, not too low. You need to clear the trees!” Raza called after her. “I know, Daddy!” she said with attitude, but she also jerked up just in time to miss a pointed treetop. “This is what you have to look forward to,” Raza said to Sever. “No, I don't,” Sever shot back. “My daughter will be an Angel. Literally.” Raza snorted and smoke trickled out of his
