PRAISE FOR SIGRÍÐUR HAGALÍN BJÖRNSDÓTTIR“Sigríður, probably best known to Icelanders for reporting the news, has written her third book, The Fires, and if things continue this way, she may disappear from our TV screens. This book is so good, excellent even, that more writing must be seen from her and consequently less screen time. Sigríður succeeds extremely well in weaving together the thrilling volcanology and [Anna’s] love life . . . Disasters at work and in private intertwine in a particularly interesting way, resulting in an explosion in both places. Anna tries her best to fight against love, but her reasoning is no match against the fire that has been ignited . . . The author’s characters and philosophical reflections are extremely strong. All the puzzle pieces seem to fall into place in Sigríður’s writing, but the story itself is such that it is impossible to put the book down, yet at the same time you sometimes don’t want to read on as it becomes clear that things will not end well. The Fires is a thriller, a love story, and a tragedy. It is absolutely fantastic, though one This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, organizations, places, events, and incidents are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously.
