Resting my back against the side of my car, I sink down to my butt as I try not to cry. My knees are bent, my arms resting on them as I stare out at the deserted road. This day is going downhill fast and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. First, Mother called me and demanded my presence at another charity event. That’s not the issue. I’ve gone to hundreds of these and they’ve never bothered me. I always get a dress and a pair of shoes, paid for by my parents, to wear to the event.The issue this time is she wants to set me up with some random man. Apparently, I'm not capable of getting my own date who will live up to her impossible standards.She’s annoyed that I graduated from college without my MRS degree like the good little girl she wanted. Nope, I went to college and got an actual degree so I could support myself. How dare I finance my own life when I could have a man do it for me! She wanted that MRS degree for me. You know, go to college and find a guy who will be successful enough to marry. Never work a day in your life because you locked said guy down and got the MRS title. That’s what my mother believes college is for, to find some rich guy to take care of you so you can spend your days shopping and eating bonbons. I beg to differ. I want to be able to support myself. I want a career. Don’t get me wrong, I want a husband and family, the whole nine yards, but that’s not my sole focus. I refuse to accept I can't have it all.I won't marry for money. I’ll only get married if I love the man and can't imagine my life without him. I don’t want to be arm candy, I want to feel wanted, loved, and respected.When I got home from work yesterday, there was a letter from my landlord. He informed me he’s selling the property and the new owner will be charging four hundred dollars more a month than I'm currently paying. He said it’s up to me if I want to stay or go. If I go, I have until the end of the year to pack my stuff. I want to stay. I love my apartment and my little slice of home I’ve created, but I can't afford an extra four hundred dollars a month. Except where can I go by the end of the year? I took the day off from work to look at apartments, but none of them will work for me.I could move back in with my parents but I wouldn’t wish that hell on anyone. Daddy’s awesome, sweet and down to earth. Mother, on the other hand, is stuck up and only cares about her image. I’ll never understand how or why they got married. If I were Daddy, I would’ve run far, far away from her. The cherry on my crap-tastic day is my flat tire. I pulled my car off of the road and checked out the damage. It’s completely flat with no hope of being repaired. I checked my trunk and there’s no spare. It’s a new car! Where the hell is the spare?When I pulled out my phone to call for help, there was no service. Just my luck. So, here I sit on the side of a deserted road, praying someone will find me and take pity on me.Hopefully, whoever stops won’t be a murderer.
