Sneak Peak Glossary Cymarthian: is a hybrid between a vampire and a shifter. The Vampire half: The sun weakens them taking their strength as the sun rises. They will find shelter in caves or under the ground. They have the ability to open the earth as they are a part of it. They need their homeland soil from the Carpathian Mountains to heal from fatal injuries and to complete the bond with their mate. Normal human food has no nutritional value, so they must drink blood. The Shifter half: They can shift into any animal of their choosing. They have managed to create a fragile alliance with the Vanators to stop the killing of their kind. Rogue: a Cymarthian who has given up on finding his mate or has chosen to seek power by killing unmated women. Vanators: a group of people that for centuries have hunted the Cymarthians. At first, it was because a king wanted to claim the land, but when a woman fell in love with a Cymarthian, the king’s wishes no longer mattered. The hatred between the two truly started because a man could not stand to be rejected by a woman. Accepted the alliance with the condition that they decide who is a threat to the human race. Chapter One S ara The chiming bells of the clock steals my attention for a moment, turning my eyes to the setting sun that was visible from the window. I sighed and rose from my desk, bringing my notebook checklist. It was time to inspect the day shift's work and welcome the night staff before Antonio woke up. I had been working here in this mansion for over a year and still didn’t know what he did all night or how he had made himself so rich. At first, I thought it was all family money, which seemed to be the case for most of it, but there was an air of accomplishment around the man who signed my paycheck. It reflects the kind of pride that is earned, not inherited. I found that pride most attractive of him, despite his shortcomings. He was handsome and wealthy but, above all else, a royal pain in my ass. He insisted that I fire anyone that had a hair out of place. “Sara, I really need to go. My sitter has a second job and will leave my kids home alone if I don’t get there in time,” Mariana moaned anxiously, eyeing the large grandfather clock in the front hall. I nodded, pulling up the checklist of Mariana’s work. My eyes moved between the paper and the room she had been assigned to that day, ensuring that all she had done was to Antonio’s specific standards. One time I went easy on a girl, skipping minor items I had believed were unnecessary for that day. That evening, Antonio noticed, and it took all I had to keep the girl from being fired, even offering my own resignation in her place. Yet, Antonio gave her a second chance and refused to allow me to resign. That had been my second week here. “It looks good, Mariana. You can go.” I watched the young mother rush away, pulling out her phone and keys and calling the sitter to say she was on her way. I shook my head, moving on to the next room to inspect as the evening staff began to file in, heading to the staff room to straighten their uniforms and have some coffee before their shift officially began. “Mariana needs to find a new sitter,” Eddy grumbled, folding the last of the linen he had brought from the laundry service. “If I had kids and their sitter threatened to leave them alone, I’d raise hell and fire them.” I nodded, agreeing with him. “I do agree, but it is hard finding someone. And her sitter is her sister.” Eddy sucked his teeth and shook his head. “What happened to family helping each other out?” “Your guess is as good as mine, Edwardo,” I answered, though I couldn’t relate. It was only because of my family that I kept this job. The benefits took care of my parents, especially my father’s medical bills. If not for them, I wasn’t sure I could put up with the bastard who lived in this house. “Was that the last load?” I asked, nodding to the neatly folded napkins and tablecloths. Eddy nodded, picking up a stack to place in the linen closet, careful not to wrinkle the folded fabric. “Good. When you are done, you can head home,” I instructed, checking off my list. The next few rooms went quickly, with minor details that needed fixing before they could go home, but nothing that couldn’t be handled. That is until it came to inspecting my evening staff. Molly had forgotten her apron again. It shouldn’t be a big deal, but
