Only after the storm can we be awed by the rainbow and know life is truly a miracle.” -Author Unknown #ISSAVIBE Each chapter is named after a song. It could’ve been a song I listened to while writing or the title just fits the chapter. Either or #IssaVibe This book is dedicated to my husband, my pretty girl, my angel face, and to my angel baby who I never got the chance to meet. I love you guys to the bright moon and back. Love Mommy CHAPTER 1 SHOWDOWN RAINBOW “Shay, I’m only gonna ask you this one more time, does that baby belong to Antonio?” I was sitting across from a scandalous bitch I once considered my best friend and was so hurt I couldn’t even look LaShayla in her face. I kept my head down while my leg bounced because I knew the two people closest to me had just crushed the last piece of my heart I had left. There was nothing LaShayla could say, and she knew it. That was why it was taking her so long to answer my question. I looked up at her and her eyes were everywhere but on me. I was starting to see red as my heart rate accelerated. To find out my best friend’s baby belonged to Antonio was a gut punch I had never expected, and she was sitting in front of me acting like shit was cool. “LaShayla!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, frightening her and the baby she was holding. “Raini, I... I’m sorry.” “Sorry?” I asked myself more than her. “You’re sorry? Put that baby down and stand up, man.” I stood and wrapped my hair in the tightest ball on the back of my head. “Stand up for what?” she asked, cradling her baby who after all this time I didn’t know belonged to my long-time boyfriend. The bitch called him Junior even though his name was Anthony, so imagine my surprise when I read the anonymous letter that I’d found in my mailbox this morning addressed to me. I read and reread the letter, hoping that what I was reading was some sick joke and that my best friend of the past ten years had not betrayed me in the worst way possible. I didn’t want to believe it. I couldn’t believe it, but the truth was smack dead in my face and there was no way around it. My breathing was labored, and tears were streaming down my face. She had two seconds to say something other than sorry because sorry wasn’t gon’ cut it. How did people intentionally hurt you and expect the word “sorry” to ease the blow? I hated that word. The word was pure bullshit and it hurt more than the actual damage done. I didn’t even call to tell her I was on my way. I wanted to see if I could catch them together, but I hadn’t, luckily for them because what I’d had planned was considered premeditated. “LaShayla, I promise I’m about to beat the skin from yo’ slut ass! Put him down and fight me. I’m not leaving this muthafucka until I drag your ass, so take this ass whoopin’!” There was no way in hell I would fight this girl while she was holding her baby. Children were my weakness and that was the main reason why my heart felt like it had been ripped from my chest, stepped on, kicked down the goddamn street, and left to bleed out. I had been through soooo much with Antonio. I had given him my all, all of me for the past five years and this is what they’d done to me? I had lost two babies due to the stress this man had caused me and this silly bitch in front of me, not fazed that I knew their secret, had been there with me through each and every loss. So yes, I was hurt. “Huhhhh!” I let out the loudest exhale and checked the time on my watch. I had already wasted ten minutes trying to get her to tell me what I already knew. This wouldn’t have been our first fight, but them baby scuffles couldn’t compare to how I was about to ball this trifling hoe up in her own house. “Put him down or I’mma spit on his bastard ass,” I spat with hate dripping from every word. Lord, please forgive me. You know I wouldn’t spit on or harm a baby. I just need this girl to get up. My threat got her attention because she slung his lil’ ass into his bassinet. “Bitch, I wish you—” That’s all she got out before I snatched her up by her pink tresses and nearly shoved my fist down her throat. I usually was a silent fighter, but this foul hoe needed to hear and feel my pain. I wanted her to understand through my fists just how dirty they had done me,
