Stop acting like a little bitch, I tell myself repeatedly. This is a new beginning for me, away from that dick I used to call my boyfriend. But, as excited as I am to start fresh at a new college. I’m also nervous about being so far from home, my family and friends, and the little town I have known my whole life. With its impressive stone façade, tall pines and large fountains, Verona Academy reminds me of a little slice of Italy in the heart of Providence. Verona is known as the elite of the elite, the most difficult college to get into unless you have a trust fund the net worth of a small country. It is also known for its mafia affiliations, but no one speaks of this. “Are you ready, honey?” My mom picks up the bag at my feet and drapes it over her shoulder. She glances at me with admiration and pride that I have managed to get into this prestigious college. I plaster a fake smile on my face and nod in response. Scared that if I speak, I’ll tell her exactly how I was feeling, and she’d swoop me up and take me back home. That is the last thing I need. I want to be as far away from my ex as possible and this place seems like the perfect place to forget all about him. I follow her up the broad steps into the building like a little kid on her first day of school. If I can’t even find my dorm room by myself, how the hell am I going to find all my classes? We’re stopped by one of the hall advisors for this building. “Hi, welcome to the best college in Providence. I’m Chelsea. Which floor are you on?” The overly cheery sophomore greets us. “Floor four,” I say as I glance around and note the other students' excitement. She gives us directions and hands me a tote bag with the Verona Academy emblem embroidered on it, full of goodies to help me settle into college life. “Thank you, have a lovely day.” My mom smiles at the preppy brunette before she heads further into the building toward the elevators. The halls are full of freshmen and their parents, all carrying their belongings in suitcases and boxes. One idiot tears through the front doors and screams past us, nearly knocking me over, with another idiot hot on his heels. We make our way further down the hall and wait with some others for the elevator to return. The doors ping open, a flood of people spill out, and as hard as I try to get out of their way, there is nowhere to move. That’s when I spot him. He towers over the other students, and his hard physique makes my mouth water. His almost black hair is tousled into a sexy mess, and his perfectly bowed lips curl over his teeth as he hisses at everyone that gets in his way. His menacing scowl roots me to the spot as he tries to get past me, and sinister dark eyes latch onto mine; he’s brutal and intimidating in his rapacious glare. The black t-shirt he wears clings to his muscles, and my eyes trail up his chest, refocusing on his face, and I stand immobile, drinking in his masculinity. “Fucking freshman,”
