Kult pointed at the doorway. “How long do you think it will take him to figure out we’re all causing her an unhealthy amount of pain and the only way to keep her safe is permanently removing her from the situation, then lock said location in some encrypted file in his head we’ll never be able to pry open?” His nods increased as their faces slowly froze over with the oh shit of that. “How fast can he learn?” Sync wondered as Pain shot toward the basement. Kult ran after him and finally caught up. “Your plan?” “Make sure she’s still there. Somebody make sure he’s fucking actually in Harlow’s control.” “I’m on it,” Augustine said, doing a quick about-face. “Coming with you,” Sync said. “What do we do?” Atlas wondered as they ran the rest of the way. “I mean about this kind of threat with a being like that?” “Stop it before it can happen,” Kult said as Pain yanked Quantum's door open and froze. They all let out a breath at seeing her sleeping in the bed. Kult pushed past him and stopped at the bed with a quick visual inspection over her, carefully moving the covers. “What are you looking for?” Atlas whispered. “I don’t know. He put her to sleep,” he said as Pain joined in the search, sliding her hair away from her neck. The hickeys lining her skin brought a bolt of jealous heat to his balls, wondering which lips were responsible. He suddenly had an urge to shave them off and give them to Pain as a Christmas gift for his next acrylic murder ensemble. “These yours?” he asked Pain, pointing to them before moving his fingers to her pulse. “Could be," he whispered. Kult looked at Atlas. “You?” He shook his head. “I wasn’t here.” But if he had been, his mark would be there. Kult realized they might belong to him now that he thought about it. He straightened at finding her pulse normal, staring at the discolorations again, looking for signs of robo-lips. She was being devoured by all of them. He spied something near the waistband of her sweatpants and carefully tugged it down. They were all leaning in, staring at the bruise on her skin. “Is that…shaped in fingers?” he barely asked, glancing at them. Pain was the first to straighten and pace, then Kult while Atlas hopefully took mental snapshots of everything. Kult eyed his blood brother who still stalked the floor, knowing what he was thinking. The same thing he was. He stopped him in his tracks, looking him in the eye. “I know what you’re thinking,” he muttered. “And you’d be right.” “You see the dark circles under her eyes,” he said. “We’re draining her. He’ll take her from here, I have no doubt about that. I’m the last person he cares about impressing.
