CHAPTER 1 ***Diarus*** Diarus had found himself frozen as he watched the lifeless body of his mother and father tossed across the room like a ball. He wasn’t about to let the same thing happen again, which was why he found himself pacing angrily in Sarah’s kitchen. Sarah was the only family he had left, and ever since their parents died, Diarus had become very protective of her. He had tried to shadow all her movements after their parent’s funeral and only took a step back when she had run away from home. That was one of his darkest periods, as he assumed the worst had happened to her. He liked to think he had done an excellent job of being a good parent to his sister since she had grown up to be a successful contractor who now had her own home. However, he wished that his sister could care more about her safety so he wouldn’t have to worry so much. Diarus watched as Sarah emptied five packets of sugar inside her coffee while whistling cheerfully like she had not just exposed herself to danger. “Are you sure you don’t want any coffee?” Sarah asked, as the corners of her mouth transformed into a beautiful smile. Diarus rolled his eyes as he knew what Sarah was trying to do. “That no longer works on me, and you should cut back on your sugar intake.” Sarah rolled her eyes as she pulled out a blue chair beside the kitchen counter to sit on. “Can you please stop pacing? It is making me feel dizzy.” Diarus sighed loudly as he stopped pacing. He crossed his arms over his chest and pulled out a chair too. “You left your door open again,” Diarus said as he looked at Sarah sternly. “This wasn’t the promise you made to me the last time I came around and found it open. Is it that hard to lock the doors before you slee…” Diarus had to swallow the remaining part of his sentence as the ground beneath him started to shake. He pulled Sarah to the ground and covered her with his big masculine body as the plates and cups began to shatter to the ground. ***Michelle*** Michelle had been driving for hours and suddenly felt very tired and exhausted. She had only stopped for gas once and had gotten some snacks from the vending machine at the gas station. The snacks had sadly not been enough because her stomach had started to growl again, and she knew there was no sign of her getting food anytime soon. Her map indicated that she still had twenty minutes before she reached Dove Valley, but she feared her map wasn’t correct as she had not seen any sign of civilization for a while now. Michelle wished she was at home sharing a plate of blueberry pie with her grandmother instead of being on the road, but she knew wishes only came true for princesses, and she was far from one.
