Created with Vellum 1 Kade Leah’s covered in blood. Some mine, and some of her own. I’m so drunk off being claimed, it hadn’t dawned on me to check her. I grab her arm, searching for her wounds. I was too rough with her, but I had to be. Leah needed to feel true fear she would lose me, otherwise she wouldn’t feel the pull. She looks at me, dazed and drunk off my blood. And I feel… Wonderful. My mate has finally claimed me. She owns me and can command me to do anything for her. I want her to claim me again, over, and over until my neck is mauled, but I’ll save that for another time. Right now, I focus on finding her wound. There’s a cut on her arm, nothing major, but she is bleeding a lot. I swipe my tongue across the wound to heal her injuries, then I look to Damon. “Thank you, brother.” I tell him. Damon nods but keeps his eyes on Leah. “Anything for you sister, but I think your mate is traumatized.” Leah blinks a few times at his words, her eyes finally focusing on me. “Wait, this isn’t real?” Her murmur comes out as a question. I grab her face, focusing her eyes on me. “It was the only way, Angel.” I tell her. Leah’s eyes move behind me, looking at Andrew. He’s helping Cami, removing the rope from her wrists. “I thought…I thought I was going to lose you.” Leah’s eyes look hurt. If this wasn’t necessary, I wouldn’t have done it. I don’t want to see my mate hurt. She moves her face from my hands, backing off my lap. I grab her, pulling her back to me, but she pushes me away and slides the door open to the van. “Leah…” She climbs out, not saying another word. I look up at Damon, thankful, but also lost at what to do now. “I think I should come back another time. Perhaps, tonight?” Damon offers. I nod, helping Andrew and Cami out of the van. Once we are back in the club, Andrew and Cami immediately get to work, cleaning up the mess we made. As for me, my steps are nervous as I make my up to the apartment for Leah. I hear the shower start as soon as I walk through the door. I sigh and rub my hand over my neck, admiring my mate’s claim. I go into our bedroom, pulling off my shirt and sit down on the bed, kicking off my shoes. Leah’s not in the shower long, she comes out wrapped in a towel, using another to dry her wet hair. Leah pauses when she sees me. I hold out my hand for her to come to me. Leah’s hesitant but complies. I pull her into my lap. Leah’s hand brushes against my blood-stained neck. “Did I hurt you?” She asks. I want to laugh at that, but I don’t. “No Leah. You claimed me.” She sighs, and she leans in, pressing her forehead to mine. “I don’t like what happened at all, Kade. You scared me. I wanted to die watching Damon attacking you.” I groan. Not just from her words, but because I can feel my mate's depression creeping back. I pull her against my chest, holding her close. “I’m sorry, Angel. I’m so sorry.” “I’m hungry.” She murmurs, burying her face in my neck. She rubs her lips gently over my claim mark briefly before planting a gentle kiss on the wound. Then, she pulls back, smiling at me. “Mine.” She says, and I smile at her. She stands off my lap and goes to the dresser for something to wear. “What would you like?” I ask her. I’ll serve her whatever she wants. And if we don’t have it, I’ll go get it myself. Leah shakes her head, pulling on her underwear. She pulls a t-shirt and her favorite pair of shorts out of the drawer. That means she’s in for the day. “That’s okay, honey. I’ll make myself something to eat.” She gasps when I’m at her side faster than she can blink. I take the brush from the dresser and run it through her hair. “No, I’ll serve you.” She groans, but lets it go, moaning when my hands dig into her hair, gently massaging her scalp. “Who was that man that helped you scare me?” Leah looks at me, biting my lip. “Damon is my brother, well, my vampire brother if you want to get technical. He was turned first by my father, or should I say, sire. My father is the first vampire ever created. All vampires are considered his children, but Damon and I are the children he claims to be his heirs. Damon is the son. I am the daughter.” “Oh.” She says simply. “I don’t like him.” I laugh, but I keep light because I know she’s serious. My sweetheart is still upset. “Let me feed you.” “No.” She snaps and it kind of hurts. I understand and step aside while she slides into her favorite slippers, then makes her way down the stairs into the commercial kitchen. I follow her of course because I’m overjoyed that she’s finally claimed me. Leah’s so quiet, though. She passes Andrew and Cami, not speaking a word to them. This isn’t my mate. She’s more upset than I thought she’d be.
