"Ow!" She pulls back her hands. "Sorry! Sorry! We have to go!"I stand up. I look strangely hot in my nonsensical "Greek" outfit, a skirted toga with a jeweled pin holding the upper part in place. "I need food. Now." Tegan breaks a protein bar in half and stuffs it into her mouth. I manage to pry her fingers apart and rescue my half of the smashed bar. "Stop fussing with my hair. Yours is blue."Tegan tries not to cry. "I know. I can't get it out and we graduate tomorrow!"I reach deep inside to keep from strangling her and waggle my finger in her face. "No crying. You're gorgeous." Tegan has a slamming body and she's wearing every bangle and necklace she owns. I have to settle for a circlet to hold my three thousand dark brown curls back and an armlet to show off my volleyball arms. Tegan throws the wrapper away. "Anna, we have to be at the pillar to get the scavenger hunt list!"I glare at her. "We stop for food."She sticks out her lower lip. "Fine." We run out the door and down the stairs.Tegan pulls me past the chicken wrap place. "We have to be first! I need the money!" First prize is $500, a paltry sum to most of the Greek Row students but a major amount for both of us. We're the scholarship girls who worked in the dining hall for work/study all four years. I ate an ungodly early breakfast of the last of the cornflakes and milk, borrowed cash from Tegan and fixed the situation, and then Tegan dragged me off to get fitted for these ridiculous outfits and do our nails. She had forgotten either lunch or snacks. I point at my phone. "We've got five minutes!" Tegan grabs my wrist and encircles it in a viselike grip. "We get it on the way." I glare at my best friend. "You know you're a monster when you're like this."Tegan shrugged. "Life Sciences."She did help me pass the supposedly easy class full of veterinary majors. "Fine."
