Taylor 1 Jade No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t wrap my mind around the moment I was in. Did I really do what I thought I did? Nibbling on my bottom lip, I peeked over at the cotton white sheets that were barely hanging onto my mattress, then nodded. “Yes, Jade, you sure in the hell did.” I dropped my shoulders and gripped the handles of my treadmill even tighter. For years I’d had so much self-control. Not once did I slip up and allow my emotions to get the best of me. But tonight, of all nights, I chose to let my guard down and did some shit I shouldn’t have done. How in the hell am I going to explain this? Lifting my head, I shrugged. You know what? Maybe, I won’t have to. It was just a one-time thing. No one ever has to know. But who was I kidding? The way my life was set up, someone would sniff out my impromptu fuck session and have the shit spread throughout the city by morning. I shook my head. Okay...Jade...you’re being a little dramatic. No one really cares about who you’re screwing. Hearing a loud beep on my cell, I grabbed it from the phone holder that was in front of me. It was a notification letting me know that someone was at my front door. Knowing it was my best friend, Egypt, I opened the video chat. “Hey, girl, hey,” she said while holding up a bottle of red wine. “Sounds like this was needed.” “It most certainly is,” I replied before hitting the button to unlock my front door. Thanks to being a bit of a neat freak, I didn’t have too much of anything in my condo, which made just about every sound bounce off the walls. With ease, I could hear Egypt’s footsteps as she traveled across my hardwood floor while probably resisting every urge to keep her hands off my white furniture. It was a habit that she’d yet to break, and according to her, I was wasting my time thinking she ever would. As soon as Egypt stepped into my bedroom, she eyed me with a wide smile and brushed her thick red curls off her shoulder. “Damn, girl, whatever you got to tell me must be a doozie. I know what it means when your ass is on the treadmill at almost midnight.” “Yeah, well, I had to do something to calm my nerves. If I don’t get this off my chest soon, I’m going to explode.” “Shit! It’s like that?” “Yes, it is.” Nodding, she placed two wine glasses on my dresser and filled them halfway before looking back at me with a pleased expression. “I went ahead and grabbed these from the kitchen. Also, before we get into whatever it is we’re about to get into, can I just say that you’re looking too damn fine right now? Brown skin glowing, lip gloss popping, and not a single hair out of place. I wish I looked this good during a workout. Hell, if I could just get my hair to slick back into a ponytail as easily as yours, I would be grateful.” “Girl, bye. You wear a new wig every day.
