She looked up and inwardly groaned, what does he want? “I’m Alec, we’re in Western Civ together,” he said pulling out the chair across from her. It was a tiny table, one she’d purposely pushed over to the corner in order to avoid the other students, and when he sat it became quite clear just how tiny it was. “I know who you are Alec, we’ve been in the same classes going on three years now,” she stated, quietly. “Yeah…look this is going to sound odd but…” He paused, glancing around the nearly deserted library as though he didn’t want anyone to see them together. “No,” Sabrina said looking down at her watch before getting up and gathering her things. “You haven’t even heard what I was going to say,” he told her incredulously. “And I don’t need to, I don’t have time to help you with whatever it is you need help on. I’ve got to go.”“Wait…please,” he added when she didn’t stop moving towards the doors. “Look, I’m in a jam, if I don’t pass the next test in just about every single class, I won’t be eligible for basketball.”“At least you’ll have more time for your homework then,” she said tightening her hold on her books. “I’m sorry but I can’t help.” “You tutored Chris last year, got him through chem with flying colors, plus half of the team before that.” Alec followed her out into the hallway as she practically ran away. “I just need someone who’ll be able to get me through the rest of the semester. I can coast through the last one but if I don’t get these credits in, I won’t graduate. Sabrina, please,” he added again reaching out and stalling her with a hand. “I feel for you, but I can’t. I’m swamped as it is, I don’t have time for tutoring,” she said pulling her arm away from him. “I’m willing to…work around your schedule if needed,” he said hesitantly. “I’ve already got offers from three universities and the season hasn’t even begun yet, if I don’t graduate, they won’t be offering them again.”“Honestly, I don’t have the time,” she told him once more as she pushed open the doors to the school, silently sending up a prayer of thanks that Nick was there. She couldn’t rely on her brother, but it seemed that today was an off day for him because he was there on time and by the looks of it, sober and showered. ∞∞∞ Alec followed Sabrina out of the building and watched as she got into the beat-up old car. He was about to turn away when he noticed the tension in Sabrina’s body suddenly tripled. She threw something at the driver and then got out, storming off towards the end of the block. The guy in the car put it into drive, creeping alongside of her, and Alec moved down the steps to cut through the grass to get ahead of them. When he was closer, he could hear them arguing. “Get in the damn car Rina,” the driver shouted at her. “Go home Nick,” she replied evenly. “I come all the way down here to pick you up and this is the thanks I get?” Nick stated, banging his fist on the steering wheel. “I said go home,” Sabrina told him again still stalking towards the corner. “Why do you have to be such a bitch? God, Rina, you’re the one who needs a ride to that damn interview. I could have stayed with Kendra and had a shit load more fun than coming down here to pick your anal ass up,” Nick said slamming on the brakes. “Then go back to Kendra and tell her what a bitch I am, Nick, and while you’re at it, forget my number. I won’t bail you out next time. You promised you were going to clean your act up, but this is the last straw. Go home and stay the hell away from me,” she told him leaning into the window of the car. Nick slammed his fist into the dashboard and then punched his foot down on the accelerator speeding off, giving her barely enough warning to jump back, while also leaving her to find a way across town in order to get to her interview on time. Sabrina felt like screaming but held onto the last tiny bit of restraint as she pulled out her cell and checked the time again. She’d never make it taking the bus now, likely only had enough to get from the hotel to work on her in cash. Why had she ever trusted her brother with something like this? God, she knew she shouldn’t have let her mother convince her to give him another shot. “Everything okay?” she heard Alec ask and she turned her head biting down on the inside of her cheek to stop the string of profanities that were dying to be released. “Fine,” she lied punching in the number for the cab
