Now that Emma’s name has been cleared, she and the rest of the team find themselves hunting for new answers as they investigate the murder of a friend. However, the murder left the squad with nowhere to turn, and once again, with no answers at all. But the terrifying thing is, something has changed. The Silencer’s kills have become more brutal. He’s escalating, and he’s got his sights set on Emma. In this fast-paced police thriller, the murderer has turned the tables on the police. As Emma and Harper team up and look into the answers, the true identity of the Silencer seems to be dangling in front of them. The cover-up becomes evident as the police become targeted in their homes, workplaces… The Silencer won't stop until he’s turned their lives upside down. Or until he’s taken a life of his own. Table of content Chapter One “Well, I hate to say this, but I’m glad that he died.” Harper laughed bitterly at Emma’s comment. Emma hated that what she said was true, considering that a colleague died. But with everything going on, Emma felt that it was okay to be a little relieved that someone had died when she was in Harper’s vicinity. Emma, Harper, and Jill were driving in Harper’s car to the crime scene. The air was tense, and Emma could smell herself . She regretted not going home and bathing or showering, or just splashing literally anything that smelt good on herself. Jill was shifting uncomfortably in the front seat, and Emma wondered if it was her smell or if it was the awkwardness of the situation. “You can roll a window down if it will help you,” Emma offered, trying to offer an olive branch to Jill just in case that was the reason that she was uncomfortable. “I think I’m okay,” Jill sighed. Back to silence. Emma rolled her neck and sighed. She hated this awkwardness, but she wasn’t sure what to do to fix it. She wasn’t sure what to say to make everyone know that she understood their anger and hatred of her. Did she agree with it? No. Did it make her sad in some ways? Sure. But she had to admit that she would have done the same thing in their situation. All the signs were pointing at her, and they were bright and loud. “I’m sorry,” Emma finally offered. When no one said anything to her, she cleared her throat and went ahead talking. “I’m sorry that I put you guys in such a bad position. I found out who he was too late, and now we won’t get all the answers that we want.” “Maybe not,” Harper admitted. She slowed to a stop and sighed. “I’m not frustrated with you, Emma. I’m frustrated because it feels like in some way, we’re just not meeting the truth of what is happening here. We thought we had this guy, and your evidence was solid, but he winds up dead.” “Same M.O. too,” Jill sighed, exasperated. “So that just puts us back at square one,” Harper growled. “And I want to be at square done.” Emma chuckled. “Did you just make a joke?” She asked. Harper smirked but only lightly. “I’m glad that you were able to figure out how to prove your innocence, though,” Jill chimed in. “I was worried about you.” Emma raised her eyebrow. “You were?” “I know it may not seem like I was,” Jill admitted, chuckling, “But Harper and I know a liar when we see one. You weren’t one of them.” “It would have been nice to know that I had someone in my corner this whole time,” Emma sighed. “I thought you guys hated me.” “Oh, we don’t hate you,” Jill shook her head. “We just didn’t know you well enough to stick our necks out for you completely yet. Sure, we had a feeling that you were innocent, but that doesn’t really mean anything, does it? It seemed like you had a lot of secrets to hide from anyway, you know.” Emma chewed on her cheek uncomfortably. She knew that they were right. She and Matt shared a secret that didn’t wind up on the list - somehow. She needed to come clean, whether the team believed her or not. She was coming clean for the right reasons, and surely, they would understand that. Right? When they arrived at the crime scene, Harper brought the car to a slow stop. There was a creaking sound emitting from the brakes, but Harper didn’t look concerned so Emma tried to tell herself that she herself wasn’t as concerned with it either. They climbed out of the car, looking up at William’s fancy New York brownstone. “Do you think that Beth will be okay back home with Tyler?” Harper asked Jill. At that moment, Emma didn’t see a tough and rumble detective. She saw a mother figure; someone whose eyes were wide at the idea of her loved one being in any kind of danger. Emma could only wonder about how that felt - especially after losing her once already. Jill’s expression was warm and kind, though. Her eyes softened as she took in Harper’s terror and fear. She put her hand on her hip and laughed a little bit. “Oh
