It does NOT end on a cliffhanger, though there are threads left open for the continuing of August’s and Pierce’s story toward their ultimate Happily Ever After. Please read with care. about After cruising each other out, August and Pierce have decided to see where their attractions lead... But with problems at home and work—and a cross-continental relationship forming—will they be able to keep each other? August: Pierce Cloud turned my life, and my sexuality, upside down. He taught me how to face difficult truths about myself—and now that Chrissy is out of the picture, I thought it would be smooth sailing. Boy was I wrong. Chrissy told my parents about my affair with her dad. Now I have to make a decision: To be “out” or not. The answer will either end my fling with Pierce, or turn it into something more. Pierce: I considered myself done with love until I met August Taylor. The sparks that ignited between us reminded me how much I want a relationship. But after we get the call that August’s parents want him back home to “talk,” I find out that the biggest client at my ad agency has left due to a buy-out, leaving me high and dry. And while August is distant with family drama, he’s now physically distant with his new job as a travel writer. I’m happy for him; I’m busy, too. But both seem to ask the same question: Are we an official couple? August was thrown head-first into this, and I don’t blame him if he wants to back out. Still, I’d like to keep him... if he’d give me the chance. Keeping does NOT stand alone. You’ll enjoy it much more if you read Cruising Future Father-in-Law first! MM / Taboo / Age Gap / Straight to Gay / Out For You / Found Family PART ONE safeguard ONE august Fog rolled over the London skyscrapers, graying out the Thames so it looked like a ribbon made of chimney soot. Sitting at the open-rooftop café with Pierce, I felt a similar fog begin to descend over my mind. In my pocket, my phone sat warm against my thigh—a reminder of the conversation I’d just had. “August, quiero que vengas a casa de inmediato, ¿me oyes?” I want you to come home immediately, do you hear me? In the wicker seat next to me, Pierce bounced his leg up and down and crossed his arms. Like there was so much energy pent up in him that he didn’t know where to put it. And fuck if I wasn’t beginning to feel the same way. A small droplet of rainwater landed on my forehead. I fingered the metal loop in my left earlobe. “Hey…” Pierce said—and I could tell he was trying to keep his cool. “You can talk to me, August.” No. I wanted to—but a sort of primal fear had taken over, and I didn’t feel that I was in my body anymore. It was as though a stranger sat on this rooftop, and I was an observer floating over it all. “August,” Pierce said. Finally, I looked into Pierce’s hazel eyes. Eyes that saw me. Superman eyes. And just like that—reality popped back into focus. “Your parents want you back home…” Pierce said, slowly, deliberately. “Tell me about that—what’s going on?” Pierce was holding out his hand; he rested it so nonchalantly on the table that meeting it with my own felt like the easiest gesture in the world. Something like an electrical current seemed to pass between our fingers when I finally took it, zinging my heart back to life. Excitement and arousal began to seep in where panic had been before, loosening up my tight throat until I could speak. “My family is—” I cleared my throat— “very Mexican.” “I figured as much,” Pierce said, with a little smile. “And very Mormon.” Pierce whistled. “Didn’t see that one coming.” Then Pierce eyed me up and down: The piercing
