Editing & Proofreading by bethhudsonink You’ll need a stiff drink during, before or after this one. Or all three, you do you boo. Cheers, happy reading. This is a Semi-dark romance. Meaning this is not what I would consider to be a full dark romance. Yes, there are some dark themes to be found including: abduction, violent scenes and murder. However, on my scale I consider this to be about a 3 out of 10. Also meaning, I can come up with some pretty dark themes. *Hint Hint* future books to come. Trigger Warning: There will be certain scenes in this book that some people may find uncomfortable, proceed with caution. And recognize your triggers please. Your mental health matters. I didn’t know how long I’d been out there, but I didn’t want to leave. The frosty tips of the grass dug into my skin. The cemetery was quiet, only the howl of wind carried through the trees. The occasional groan of the branches called out to me. It was like they mourned with me today. It was early Christmas morning, and I sat between the two people I loved the most in the world. “Merry Christmas Mom, Merry Christmas Dad.” I propped the poinsettia I brought up onto the headstones. “Evelyn?” Victoria’s voice filtered through my brain. I looked up to find her concerned gaze on me. “It’s freezing out here why don’t we head back?” She extended her hand towards me. Victoria was devastated when she found out about my papa. She never left his side at the hospital; she made sure I was taken care of as well. As much as I didn’t want to like her in the beginning, she wormed her way into my heart. The lady had a sour demeanor about her, but she cared for my grandpa unlike anyone I’d ever met. It made my heart explode with happiness at the thought. “We should head back. It’s freezing out here.” She coaxed again. She tipped her head toward the black town car idling on the street. I took a shuddering breath and placed a kiss on my fingertips and ran them down the cold stones. One kiss for each. I stood on shaky legs and dusted off the frost sticking to my jeans. I walked ahead of Victoria and made my way towards the town car. Jentry stepped out and opened the door for the two of us. I slid in, letting the warmth of the car seep into my skin. Victoria slid in after me, and we sat in silence. We pulled away from the Raymont cemetery and headed back into Blue Lakes. The silence in the car seemed deafening. Victoria had wanted to talk to me about what had happened in Goldridge. Everyone knew what had happened, and it didn’t take long for her to hear of the winter formal incident. “I’m not going back,” I found myself saying. “What?” Her head snapped to the right, waiting for an explanation. “I said I’m not going back to the Academy. I think I should finish off my year at Raymont High. Where I belong.” My voice was monotone and cold. I couldn’t find it in me to give any emotion. I felt drained, both emotionally and physically. The car came to a stop at the assisted living center. I stepped out of the car and made my way inside. I could hear her heels quickly approaching me from behind. “Evelyn. Please think about this. I would hate for you to throw all that hard work away—" Before she could speak again, Kaizer’s voice interrupted her. “Let me talk to her later. He’s awake now.” His voice was deep and commanding. Victoria hesitated for a few seconds before she conceded. We all walked into the large bedroom, and I plastered on a smile. My grandpa was propped up on a bed with a bright smile on his face. “Evie, dear, we were waiting on you.” His hand shook slightly as he brought the Christmas mug to his lips. “Sorry Papa, I had to drop off poinsettias for Mom and
