My best friend’s brother has always been off-limits. After losing my dream job as a lawyer, the grumpy billionaire hires me to save his family’s vineyard. As our fiery exchanges spark, the thought of betraying my best friend holds me back. Until one passionate night changes everything, and we give in to our desires. Now I’m torn between loyalty to my friend or a future with the man who awakens such fierce desire in me. As I face small-town politics and family drama, I have to decide what’s worth risking. All while keeping my heart and the future of my daughter in mind. Will our enemies-to-lovers romance flourish like the grapes in his vineyard, or will it wither away like neglected vines? Preface CONTENT WARNING Please be advised that this book contains scenes of a sexual nature and may not be suitable for all readers. It is intended for your entertainment. Lisa Stepping out of my car, I arrive in St. Helena, California, taking in the sights and scents around me. The scene is familiar. The charming shops on the street and the smell of fresh bread from the bakery take me back in time. A mix of nostalgia and nervousness washes over me as I look around. “Ava!” I exclaim as my best friend rushes towards me, arms wide open. Her infectious smile immediately lifts my spirits. “Lisa!” she yells back, enveloping me in a warm embrace. “I’ve missed you so much! How have you been?” The setback still stings. Losing my job in Los Angeles dealt a blow to both my confidence and finances. Despite my dreams of becoming a successful lawyer and running my own firm, I find myself back in my hometown, feeling defeated. It’s been a while since we last met in person, but it feels like no time has passed. “Remember when we snuck out of the dorms and got caught by campus security?” Ava asks with a mischievous glint in her eye. I chuckle, feeling a familiar rush of excitement. “Oh man, I can’t believe we were so reckless. We could have gotten in so much trouble.” “But it was worth it for those delicious cookies from the cafeteria, right?” Ava counters, grinning. I chuckle, “Agreed. And what about when we created a massive sundae in the cafeteria with all the toppings?” “How can I ever forget that? It was a true masterpiece. We received quite a few curious stares from other students,” Ava chuckles. As we keep walking, Ava brings up Josie, our friend who passed away. Josie was the life of the party, and even though she often got us into trouble, we loved her for it. We both fall silent, lost in memories of our dear friend. “Josie always had this infectious energy that drew people to her. I wish she were here,” Ava says, her tone filled with sadness. I nod in agreement, feeling the weight of the loss on my chest. “It’s not the same without her, but I’m grateful that we still have each other.” Ava smiles, “When we were kids, you two were my first friends. I’m grateful that we’ve stayed close over the years.” “I feel the same way,” I say. “You and Josie have always been my unwavering support through life’s ups and downs.” “That’s sweet of you to say, Lisa. How’s Cara been with everything?” I can’t help but smile at the mention of my daughter. “Things seem to be going wonderfully with her. She’s thriving in school and loves going there with Brooklyn.” Ava’s eyes shine with happiness as she nods. “I bet Brooklyn is doing fantastic, knowing how wrapped around Ethan’s finger she is. I’m sure you miss Cara a lot, though,” she says with sympathy. My heart sinks at the thought of being so far from Cara. “Yeah, it’s difficult,” I admit, feeling a little homesick. “But we Facetime almost every night before bed. It’s not the same as being together, but it helps us both feel connected.” Ava leans in, asking, “How’s the job hunt been going?” The question hangs in the air like a lead weight, and I can sense the concern in her voice. A knot forms in my stomach as I let out a deep sigh. “It’s been challenging, Ava. There aren’t many firms in town, and the available ones don’t seem to align with my skills and interests. Her sympathetic nod only adds to my frustration. “Have you considered looking in nearby towns or cities?” “I have,” I reply, sighing, “but the commute would be a nightmare. I’m willing to make some sacrifices, but spending hours on the road every day isn’t one of them.” Ava’s reassuring smile is a ray of hope amid my uncertainty. “You’ll figure it out, Lisa. You’re a smart and capable woman. Don’t give up yet.” Her words of encouragement lift my spirit. Her unwavering belief in me warms my heart. Ava has always been my biggest supporter; her faith in me means everything. Nostalgia washes over me as we make ourselves comfortable in her cozy apartment. The intimate space brings back memories of
