What the hell? I start to type out a message but then another one comes in. (479)531-0967 & yu betta get checked cuz da hoe burnin niggas witcho dumb ass 🖕🏾 🤯😶🌫 Well this is awkward but I’m 1000% sure you have the wrong number...😳🤐 Delivered I sit on the couch with my phone in my hand, flabbergasted. Three dots appear, disappear and then appear again. Meanwhile, I’m practically sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for a response from this weirdo texting my phone. Rosie, my best friend, comes in from the kitchen we share and flops on the couch with a yogurt in her hand. “What’s wrong?” She asks right away. “Nothing, I don’t know.” I glance at my phone. “Some random number is texting me, trippin’ girl. Look.” I hand over the yellow iPhone and then put my focus on the movie neither of us are watching on TV. A few seconds later, Rosie laughs. “Wow, I wouldn’t have even responded.” My phone dings with a new message. (479)531-0967 nigga yu must think im dumb . clearly . betta come get ya shit from muh crib cuz dat shit sittin outside 🥱✌🏾 Sis, you really got the wrong number.🤔🤭 I’d leave his stuff on the curb though. 😅 Delivered (479)531-0967 shit new phone , who dis? Chapter 2 Not that you know me but I’m Ari 👸🏽💅🏽 lol Delivered I don’t know why I keep texting back to this random number. They don’t know me and I don’t know them. What I do know is I don’t hang out or associate with people who come off so aggressively or text the way they do. But something about the energy that comes with every message I read intrigues me. “You’re still texting back?” Rosie asks as she puts her long black hair into a ponytail and then leans back on the dark blue sofa. “Yeah, but I don’t know why.” I shrug. Rosie and I have been best friends since freshman year in high school. We started with a group of four of us but now, we’re twenty-five and out of everybody, we’re the only ones who still talk. I thought the four of us were gonna grow up and be like The Cheetah Girls but damn, I was so wrong. It’s Saturday evening and as the sun starts to set, I lay in Rosie’s bed, watching her get ready for a date with her boyfriend. I’m jealous but not because I want her boyfriend or I’m secretly in love with her. I mean, she is gorgeous in every way but I don’t see her that way. I’m jealous because I don’t have a boo, nobody to talk to, text or flirt with. I know I could have any guy I want but I don’t want one. Rosie has so many friends who want to take me out but I can’t force myself to get interested in any of them. Especially not the dudes that hang around her boyfriend. Did he come get his stuff? 👀🤭 Delivered I send the text and follow Rosie downstairs. My best friend is so pretty. Her hair is half up, half down and she’s wearing a black and blue body suit that suffocates her petite but curvy body. She always invites me to go out with her and any other time, I’m down to go. But I don’t feel like being bothered tonight. “Drop your pin if you need me to come get you.” I tell her after a brief hug ends even though I know her boyfriend will make sure she’s taken care of. Rosie has a habit of getting too drunk every time she goes out, almost every other weekend, but her boyfriend, D’Juan seems to handle it alright. I’m alone for an hour and a half before I head to my bedroom. We live in a two
