Her pet war cat, Sarge, bounded behind her. When she was on Roost, he was her fuzzy shadow. As she entered the area reserved for Angels, her stomach clenched, and she slapped her hand over her mouth as a wave of nausea swept up from her gut. Desperate not to make a mess in the corridor in front of everyone, she rushed to the nearest available bathroom—her room. She slammed her fist on the door’s open button and pushed the panel back with her shoulder. Kita rushed across the room, oblivious to the moaning and screaming from the bed. Pulling the bathroom door open, she spotted her target: the toilet. It mostly went unused because of the Angels’ ability to turn everything they consumed into energy. Falling to her knees, Kita leaned over the metal bowl and heaved a combination of bile and silver liquid. By the Crushing Depths…Kita, with tears in her eyes, leaned against the shower glass. Why? What did I do? I haven’t eaten in— “Kita, you ok?” Sarin said after opening the door a fraction. She pushed Sarge back as the big cat tried to force his way in. “I…I…oh, bloody moons.” Kita lunged forward and found the toilet bowl as a heave pushed more from her stomach, up her throat, and into the bowl. Slapping the top of the toilet, Kita found the flush button, removing the evidence, and sprayed her face with water. Sarin pulled the door back, revealing she was naked. “Babe? What’s wrong?” “Is there something Kita can’t ruin?” muttered Snowy from the main room. Sarin waved at her and looked down at Kita. “Babe, what happened? Are you sick?” Kita answered by throwing herself at the toilet bowl and spewing bile and silver liquid. The pain in her stomach and the embarrassment were enough to cause tears to trickle down her face. Both increased as she heaved again until she collapsed against the shower, not bothering to flush. Sarin knelt next to Kita. She put the back of her hand against Kita’s forehead. “Wow, you’re warm. I think I should take you to see Mengele.” “I don’t feel good,” Kita whined as she slumped to the cool tile of the bathroom floor. “It’s ok,” cooed Sarin. “We’ll get you feeling right.” “What the hell did she do?” exclaimed Snowy from the doorway. “You couldn’t have waited for us to finish?” Her face pressed against the textured floor, Kita asked, “What were you doing?” “None of your business,” grumped Snowy. Sarin pushed her away. “Just sex, babe. We can pick it up later.” A hiccup, followed by a belch, escaped Kita. She pushed up wildly from the floor, banged her chin on the toilet bowl rim, and hurled, getting the contents of her stomach on the rim and floor. “Ew! God, Kita,” exclaimed Snowy. “How hard is it to get it in the bowl?” Kita slumped to the floor and broke into sobs. “I’m sorry,” she wailed. “I don’t know what’s wrong.” “Snowy, call for Mengele,” suggested Sarin. She stroked Kita’s hair. The gesture calmed Kita and brought her sobbing under control. “What’s wrong with me?” she begged. “We know you didn’t go on a three-night bender,” cackled Megan, poking her head in the door. “What’s wrong, kiddo?” “She’s been throwing up,” said Sarin, pointing to the mess. “That silver stuff doesn’t look organic,” said Megan as she pulled a swab from her lab coat, stuck it in the silver liquid, and closed the protective cap. “I’ll get this analyzed. I’m
