And by normal, I didn’t mean I was acting like nothing had happened. It did. I couldn’t change that. Some asshat delivered an envelope full of lies, and I took them at face value. Shame on me. I get it. Those photos weren’t real, and I overreacted. Not that anyone would blame me if they actually saw them. They were a grotesque interpretation of the lifestyle Creed claimed to be in, and since I hadn’t seen it firsthand, what was I supposed to think? But that was behind us. Now it was time to have an open, honest discussion. The shock had worn off, and I could actually talk without crying the way I did yesterday in Creed’s office when they got a glimpse of the photos for the first time and told me they were fake. I was more than willing to apologize for my part in what happened, but I didn’t think I shouldered all the blame. They’d known who this person was all along, and I suspected they knew his reason, but no one cared to clue me in. Could they really blame me for how I reacted? Needless to say, Creed, Hawk, Nick, and Garrison weren’t quite as forgiving as I’d hoped they would be. Nor were they jumping at the chance to talk about it. It was frustrating, and I certainly saw the irony in it. Yes, I understood that disappearing the way I did hurt them. Now, they needed time to determine whether they could trust me again. After all, that was what I’d been doing during the week I hid out in my parents’ guest house, right? Well, that and crying nonstop. But those tears were in the past, and I was moving forward. From here on out, I would not take things like that at face value. I would give people time to explain their side of the story. Even I had to give myself props for all the adulting I was doing lately. Two months ago, I doubted I could’ve shouldered the blame without being crushed under the weight of it. But like I said, I wasn’t taking all the blame. There was an asshole out there who got to carry the majority of it because his deceitful, lying ass was the reason we were here in the first place. And by here, I meant where we tried to get things back where they were before that godawful packet of photographs was delivered. Although Creed assured me we would figure this out, by Tuesday afternoon, I realized it wouldn’t be a quick fix. The four men I loved were more stubborn than I’d given them credit before. I worked throughout the day yesterday in my office with the door open, hoping to catch one of them when they came through. No one came by to talk. Nick had a pass because I learned via an email that he was in new hire orientation all day and had left it for the short time he came to Creed’s office. Hawk also had a
