I hope you stay along for the journey. Chapter 1 Abby “Let go,” I choke out as Isaac continues to painfully grip my throat, clawing at his hands, my nails dig into his flesh as panic fills me. After another painfully long moment, reality hits him, and he finally lets me go. He jumps back like he’s burned himself. Crumbling to the ground, I suck in mouthfuls of air as I struggle to breathe through my coughing fit. “No. No, no, no,” he whispers, his eyes wide with fear as he grabs handfuls of his black hair, shaking his head as he starts to pace back and forth. Sitting on the cool kitchen floor, I watch my stepbrother panic as I try to hold myself together when really, I want to be doing the same. I won’t let him see me in a vulnerable state. Not right now, not like this. I have to wait until I’m alone to allow myself to think, to process what the fuck just happened. My hand rubs at the sore flesh of my neck, my chest heaving as I try to catch my breath. Isaac starts mumbling to himself like a mad man. He’s acting like being fated to me is the end of the world. I’m not sure if I should be offended or feel the same way in regards to him. Why does seeing him like this, seeing him hurt, make me want to get up and make everything better?
