Three years after Doomsday, the story of the Men of Phoenix begins. Five Years after Doomsday, the marriage of Mika and Connor takes place. Six Years after Doomsday, the Big Flood happens and on that same day, the Romanov twins are born, marking it as the Year of the Twins: 1 A.T. 6 A.T. The Brawl King—begins. Introduction Three years after the Big Flood on Earth, the perpetual gray twilight caused by billions of tons of volcanic ash, subsided. The vestige of civilization sequestered inside Phoenix’s domes of plexiglass and titanium survived and was spared the fate of the world’s population, who had succumbed to an outbreak of unknown origin just before the cataclysmic earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis plunged Earth into a global winter. The satellites orbiting Earth, taking incessant photos of a cloud-shrouded planet, would forward an increasing number of glimpses of the blue ocean and ice-covered landmasses. Dr. Connor Romanov, a computer programming genius and second in command of Phoenix, had taken control of the orbiting satellites. With the help of his husband, Dr. Mika Romanov, they had broken the codes from scores of intelligence-gathering orbiters placed in space by Earth’s old governments. Their ingenuity had helped prepare and thus save Phoenix. The first successful ectogenesis twins, the biological children of Mika and Connor Romanov, had been born minutes before the tsunami had struck Antarctica. Instead of naming the year after a near tragedy, the population had voted to have that period christened after a near-miracle event—the birth of twin boys in an all-male society. Since the Year of the Twins (After Twins—A.T.), many things have changed at Phoenix. Enthusiasm to rebuild and their quest for excellence continued as the citizens adjusted to their new normal, the overall mood of the citizens grew, and children were born. Mika and his colleague, Dr. Peter von Leutzendorf, successfully created a method for male sperm splicing and then fertilization of a human donor egg. They implanted this in an artificial womb with a placenta that sustained a life-giving equilibrium for the growth of human fetuses. Under the authority of the World Health Protected Species Society (WHPSS) and Dr. John Saunders, they cryogenically transported tens of thousands of eggs to Phoenix before Doomsday. In the last twenty-one years, new lives have entered the Phoenix population. Usually as twins and sometimes as triplets. They were primarily fraternal, but occasionally identical.
