Damn it. “It’s too fucking quiet,” I grunt at King as we put the final touches on Mom and Dad’s new house. After the accident we all agreed the project needed to be finished by the time they were healed. It’s meant a lot of extra hours for King, Torque, and I, but there is nothing that we won’t do for our parents. And almost losing them, well, that gives some perspective. At least, it did for me. It’s been months, and the shit with the Mafia has been quiet. Far too quiet for my liking. I’m suspicious by nature, and I know there will be retaliation at some point. Hell, we took out their main operators, and we left their territory open and vulnerable. If that doesn’t bring some heat down, I don’t know what will. I just hope we’re ready for it. The last thing we need are our parents or one of the women getting hurt, again. King grunts back at me as we finish putting up the shelves in the walk-in closet. He gives me an a pointed look. “Have you heard if Cryos has dug up the name of the new head guy?” I shake my head. We have seen some movement at some of the key businesses that Dmitri Norikov used in his operation, which signals to us that the Mafia are trying to get things up and going again. We are monitoring it, but so far it’s still a mystery who has filled Dmitri’s seat. There isn’t even a whisper on the streets, or from the cops, which makes me think that whoever it is is making sure we don’t find out. Or they’re an even bigger player than expected. Cryos can find anything, and if he can’t find the new leader’s name, well, it definitely makes me far more antsy. “Dad’s calling Church tonight, so hopefully he’ll have some news for us then,” I sigh. I glance around the walk-in closet and wonder aloud, “Do you really think Mom has enough clothes to fill this?” “Considering Dad has his own closet, I would say so,” King chuckles. “Her hanging out with Leonora and Alice means she’s been shopping a hell of a lot more than usual. I heard Dad threatening to cut her off the other day, and she just laughed. So I think that answers whether he’ll actually follow through.” I shake my head. “Those women are trouble.” “The Coven? I give King a knowing look. “We both know she would get out of her restraints, and then she would make your life a living hell. Though, you two are kinky bastards, so she might like it.” King gives me a wicked grin. He looks so much like our parents when he does that. He has Mom’s caramel eyes, and light brown hair, but he has our father’s stern jaw, broad shoulders, and iron will. I look more like Mom but with our father’s build and bright blue eyes. Our middle brother, Torque, looks just like Dad, but he has our mother’s stubbornness. “Crazy does like it when I tie her up,” King agrees as we leave the closet and head downstairs. “And I like to try and keep her there for as long as possible.
