I can’t believe she’s missing. I was just with Dena. We had a nice night. I avoided her kiss, but besides that, I still saw her as a friend. As worried as I am, I stand outside my dorm with my arms around me, surrounded by white noise. I’m having a hard time concentrating, mostly because I’m trying to figure out what the hell happened with Lyra. One moment, we were lost in a wave of orgasmic bliss, and the next, she’s as cold as ice. Ugh, those few moments are going to haunt me. The sounds she made, the way she tasted… all of it. Lyra shockingly bent to me and just let go in my arms. Well, until she shut down again. I thought things were changing, and maybe there was something between us. At the very least, we were now friends. But she’s on the other side of the yard talking with people and refuses to look at me. Like are you fucking kidding me? I should have known things couldn’t change that much. Mean girls will always be mean. A police officer comes up to me, and as I blink, the sounds of people talking and crying return to me. Damn, I may be in a little shock. I shouldn’t be thinking about Lyra right now. Dena was so nice to me. A true friend. I can’t believe something happened to her. “Hi, I’m Officer Lancaster, and we’re talking to all of the students about Dena…” The officer looks down at a notebook to check something. “Higgins. Did you see her today?” I take a deep breath in; my hands are trembling because I honestly really do like Dena as a friend, and now that I’m not thinking about the pseudo sex I had with my step-sister, things are finally hitting me. “We’re friends and in the theater club together. I saw her earlier today, and she seemed fine when she went to get ice cream with Marsha at the cafe,” I tell him, which is the truth. I don’t feel like he needs to know we went on a lukewarm date. That’s just too much information for a stranger. Officer Lancaster nods, frowning. “Thank you, we’re doing everything we can to find her. If I have any other questions, we’ll contact you. Can I get your name and number please?” I give him both, hoping that there’s something that I can do to help but doubting it. I thought Marsha said the campus stalker graduated? An hour later, Officer Lancaster grabs a megaphone and announces that students can return to their rooms. I sigh, exhausted, and head that way just wanting my bed. I hope I don’t have another nightmare. I have been having weird dreams lately, but I never remember them when I wake up. I cram into one of the elevators, knowing the stairs are better for me but too tired for them. Tomorrow I’ll find time for a workout, though that may mean going up and down the stairs. I’m definitely freaked out after what happened to Dena today. Obviously the buddy system is shit. I push through the press of bodies to get out on
