Complex. Hungry. Open. Closed. And everything in between. Whether propelled by outside forces, a deep-seated desire or something as simple as a passing thought. Once that spark is produced, a roaring flame can emerge. It’s within the depths of that fire, where true creativity can form. Never silence your inner flame. It is the heart and soul of what makes you, you. Acknowledgments For my closest loves. Yes, you! Thanks for giving me the space to be creative. Luv you much! Table of Content One Two Three Four Five Six Seven Eight Nine Ten Eleven Twelve Thirteen Fourteen Chapter One T he woman pulled up to her sister’s home, nearly taking a small tree down, as she came to a hard stop. She needed help. Things were falling apart, and now she was outside her sister’s home, racked with guilt and feeling mounds of betrayal from all sides. Life wasn’t supposed to turn out this way. It was hard to pinpoint exactly where the dirty deeds lie. It was the residue of a marriage built on secrets, and things had begun to weigh heavily on her. The bridge had crumbled. Jill was unable to walk to the other side. She felt stuck. It was her own desperation that angered her the most. Her husband was acting different. Something was off. The love he gave, had changed into something she no longer could feel. She was losing a love she had held onto and she was desperate to repair it. Jill wanted to beg David to stop whatever he was doing that had him so far from her grasp. He was once so enthralled that his actions knew no bounds. There were the public displays of intense affections. Flowers sent to her office. Notes on her windshield. Random Hallmark cards. All gestures that made her giggle like a school girl. All things that had her open and vulnerable. She had loved him the same. But things had shifted. David Price put the “charm” in charming. Their love affair, pre and post marriage, was enviable and she lived in those moments. Moments now gone with the wind. And Jill was now at her sister’s door hoping that her clever wit could help reel him back in. “Coming,” the familiar voice said. Jill looked around. The sound of the deadbolt turning was a relief. Taylor was home. Jill hurried to fix the tense look she was sure was on her face. It was no way to start. She didn’t want to appear completely broken. “Oh Jill!” Taylor gushed, as she opened the door. The women embraced with a sweet, long hug that they both needed. It had been some time since they’d actually seen one another. Their busy lives kept them as phone companions more than anything else. It was great for the sisters to find time. Though the smiles were plentiful, there was tension. Loads of it. And Taylor instantly felt the heat. “Well come on in. Don’t just stand there. I’m alone at the moment. We can talk about whatever is eating at you. I haven’t seen this face in a while. I know you,” she said. Jill walked in, her humiliated spirit dragging behind. She kept her head down. This was her lowest. Marriage problems had her on the brink of snapping with no end in sight. Jill walked past the foyer and into the living room. “I brought some wine with me,” she said, as she continued toward the living room, looking around. “Where’s Sterling?” she asked, as she made her way to her sister’s plush sofa and plopped down. Taylor followed suit and sat beside her. “He’s out. His typical Friday night with the fellas. He should be here soon enough. Don’t talk him up. I’m in no hurry for his antics. Let him have his fun. He’ll come home full of liquor and a hard on. After that, there will be nothing but loud snores to remind me that he still exists in this…I don’t know what to call it,” Taylor said, reflecting on her ten year marriage. Her complaint was really not a description of a woman unhappy with the way things were. She loved Sterling. He was her real-life bad boy with all the trimmings. A successful trader by day and a party-hard flirt by night. Taylor had settled into her role as the spoiled wife. When Jill called speaking of affairs and broken hearts it opened up old wounds. Sterling was behaving as far as Taylor knew, yet still the mention of it had stirred her soul. Jill
