CHAPTER ONE Zeke I pace the empty kitchen in the farmhouse for the hundredth time, then the two hundredth. With everything going on with the Kings lately, I can barely form a cohesive thought. Eden is spending way more time with Savage than she should be. She’s the president of our club, and while she’s usually ruthless and powerful, lately she’s been out of sorts. She asked her boyfriend, or whatever Savage is to her, to marry her, and they got hitched that very day, but now she’s acting like a lunatic. Like she’s not sure she should have done it or something. To be fair, she’d been through hell and back with several betrayals and a fight to the death with some old and new rivals. She won, but we nearly lost Eli because of it. Eli. Usually the calm, reasonable one of the three of us, even after he was almost tortured to death. He keeps showing up at the bakery at least as much as I do. I try not to get too confrontational about it, especially when I run into him there, because that’s where the other reason I’ve been so stressed out can be found. Kira. And I don’t want to scare her off by being too aggressive. God, she’s beautiful. Every time I see her, I can’t help but feel even more drawn to her. I have eight million things I need to be focusing on for the club and for my family, but I can’t get the baker’s daughter out of my mind. She might be an actual angel, if those things even exist. I stuff the last of the donuts into my mouth as I walk through the kitchen. I start to throw the empty box away, but then decide to be a little bit petty and leave it out. Maybe Eli will see it and think that there are some left. It’s a small thing, but thinking about him coming up empty on any piece of Kira gives me a bit of sadistic pleasure, especially since he was the one who’d gone to get them. It has been nearly a week since I’ve seen her. I had planned to make a run to the bakery two days ago, but I’d come home from a run to find out that Eli had already gone. Dick. I stare at the box for a moment, debating going to get more, but I’m not sure if it will be better to go to the bakery or order delivery so she has an excuse to come to the farmhouse. I look down at my watch. The bakery closes in two hours, which means I have plenty of time to get there. But there’s no way I could go in as pent up as I am. I actually like Kira, and if I’m going to win her over, I need to find a release before I go. I stomp up the stairs to my room, where I resume my pacing. Within minutes, after only a few laps of the floor, I’m hard as a rock. Normally, I would go get laid for a release, but the only person I want in my bed is Kira, and I haven’t figured out how to even ask her out yet. That’s new for me. I’ve never had woman troubles. I can’t figure out what is so special about this girl, why she can hold my attention like no other could, but it doesn’t matter. All that does matter is that right now, there’s no way I can focus on anything because the only thing that keeps popping up is Kira and how fucking bad I want to ask her out for real—something
