As noted in the description, this book is a bastardization of the “canon” tales. (I put “canon” in quotes because it’s so extensive, without any true, singular “canon” legend accepted by all experts.) This book is not a retelling of any specific legend of King Arthur, Guinevere, or the Knights of the Round Table. Astute experts on the subject may notice some similarities and callbacks to older tales, however. Triggers: This book contains many. I hope I’m not missing any: Abandonment, BDSM, blood, bondage, captivity, childhood trauma, choking, death, degradation, depictions of sex work, depression, gore, graphic descriptions of sex, graphic descriptions of violence, group sex, misogyny, objectifying, public sex, sexual assault, submission, suicide. If you find any of the above triggering in your dark romance books, then I suggest this might not be the book for you. It also contains “swords crossing,” or MM or gay content, though I don’t believe that deserves to be included in a TW/CW list. I just thought you should know. If you love all this shit in your dark romances, then enjoy! -KC For anyone who has ever dreamed of being a princess or prince in the villain’s arms… Chapter 1 Guinevere A sticky note on the front door of my grungy hostel. That’s how I find out the most important person in my life is dead. It couldn’t have come at a worse time, either. John is inside me, bucking his hips like a bull having a seizure. He smacks against my ass, sweaty body sliding on top of mine. It feels like a slug crawling up and down my belly. John, surname Doe, is energetic. I’ll give him that. He fucks hard enough to send my small cot skidding up the floor. The back of my head smacks the wall, and white light shoots behind my eyes. I groan in pain. John thinks it’s a groan of pleasure. He can keep thinking that. “You like that?” he snarls. “Oh yes, Daddy,” I say in his ear. His cock throbs inside me. John insists I call him “Daddy.” He definitely doesn’t have Daddy-with-a-capital-D vibes, but it’s his money, so I can’t argue. I guess it’s better than calling him “John.” “Fuck me harder.” I wrap my arm over his incredibly hairy shoulder to rake my nails down his back. “You’re so big.” Even in my own ears, I don’t sound believable. I’d never make it as a porn star. Not that I’m trying to be one. I’m just trying not to be homeless. He grunts. “Fuck, you’re so tight, honey.” Ew. I hate when he calls me “honey.” Coming from him—a white collar exec who works in Manhattan—makes it sound like I’m his daughter. A loud knock bangs the door behind him. I half expect Marcy to burst in and witness John’s pasty ass belting into me, balls bouncing. It startles John. His body tightens. “Fuck!” Pulling out with a huff, he strokes himself before spraying his cum all over my belly and tits. Then he flops down next to me on the cot, which is barely big enough for me alone. John toys with my hair, wrapping his finger around my curly red strands. “That was so good, honey.” My eyes go over his shoulder to the door. I’m already done with him, curious about the knock. If it was Marcy, she’d be in here already. That girl has no concept of personal boundaries. John, boneless and spent, nestles up next to me. His prickly white beard stabs my shoulder. His breathing is the snore of a St. Bernard. Loud, open-mouthed breathing is one of my pet peeves. “There’s no way you’re already asleep.” “Almost,” he murmurs. I pat him on the shoulder. “You’ve gotta go, Daddy.” He props his head up, frowning. “Already?” I match his frown. “You know I don’t do aftercare, John. That costs extra.” “I have the money.” “I don’t have the time right now. Sorry.” With another huff, he sits up. He puts on his white collar uniform: button-up, slacks, blazer. “Same time next week?” I nod. When he leaves, I sit there with his cum drying on my naked body. Contemplating my life choices. Seconds after he’s gone, the door swings open. Marcy barges in. Turns out my hostel roomie has been here all along. The embarrassment of thinking about her listening to us through the wall is nothing compared to the mortification of her standing here now, staring down at my defiled body. My eyes bulge. I try to snag covers to hide myself. Too late. With her hands on her hips, her face is so judgy it could sentence a nun to hell. “You can’t keep turning your tricks here, Guin.” Knee-jerk anger rifles through me. “You’re just jealous you can’t do it.” Hurt flashes across her face. Guilt cracks my
