Harris, Trace, Alder, Willa, and I went back to Willa and Trace’s home. Well, it was my home now, too. The sun would soon be rising, so we all went around securing the shutters. We were amped up with adrenaline and no one was ready to rest just yet. Trace opened her best wine. She beamed as she poured five stemless glasses full, emptying the bottle. “What a night. I can’t believe our plan went off without a hitch.” Harris clinked his glass with hers and kissed her cheek. Alder rubbed Willa’s back as she stood beside me. Our arms were touching, and I noticed she was staring at me when I looked down at her. “Damn, you act like you’ve never seen me before.” She went on her tiptoes and pressed a gentle kiss on my cheek. “I’m sorry. I can’t help it.” Then she sniffed my shoulder. “Hmm. Whipped cream…or…marshmallow cream. I wondered what you would smell like. You vampires have your own unique smells, you know. And yours is yummy.” She smelled me again. I could only laugh. I instantly got turned on, but this wasn’t the time for sex. Yet. I leaned further down with my nose in her hair and whispered into her ear. “And I’ll have a taste of you soon enough.” Alder knew what steamy scenarios were running through our minds. He reached over and squeezed my shoulder with a wink. “There is a lot to be learned, Micah. You had your fill tonight, but soon the hunger pain will return. We will rest here today. At dusk, you and I have a little training to do.” Willa whipped her head towards Alder. “Training? And what does that involve?” Harris smiled. “He’ll probably need a good week or two to gain control of his thirst. Maybe more. Our appetites can be monstrous at first.” “Two weeks?” I exclaimed. “I can’t leave for two weeks. I’ve only just returned to Willa.” I possessively wrapped my arms around her shoulders from behind. Alder shook his head. “There’s no need in arguing. You won’t win. We will be gone. And it will be for however long I deem necessary. Believe me, you would never forgive yourself if you harmed her.” Willa rubbed her hands over my forearms. “I guess it has to be done.” She sighed. “Where will you go?” asked Trace. “Maybe London,” suggested Harris. I scoffed. “That far?” “Yes, that far,” Alder confirmed. “It’s the ideal place. After a while, when I feel you are ready, Harris will bring Trace and Willa. You all will meet the clutch there. David Kingswood is the primus. You’ve probably heard of him.” Trace’s jaw dropped. “Oh my god. The famous David Kingswood? Of Kingswood Talent?” I couldn’t believe it either. “You mean to tell me he’s a vampire? He’s been my idol since the beginning of my career. Still is. I had no idea. How did I not know this?” Alder laughed. “I know, it’s hard to believe. He’s a young vampire, but he embraced the lifestyle with such ease. It came naturally. You know David’s modeling career has always been successful. When he turned thirty, he had a great desire to become one of us. The primus of London at the time was his business partner, Ian, so David had a great understanding of what being a true vampire entailed. Ian had been primus for over a century and wanted to start traveling a bit. The clutch overwhelmingly approved David’s takeover. He’s designing a new fashion line that’s darker and more gothic than what he has built his reputation on. You’ll see, Micah.
