Sage’S Fire By: Raelynn Beckett Dedications: I am dedicating this book to the most amazing person in my life. She pushed me to become more than I thought I would ever be. Thank you, Mom. You always pushed me to challenge myself and to never settle. I love you and I Hope everyone enjoys this book just as much as you did. By: Raelynn Beckett Chapter 1 Sage had planned everything to a T. She had planned to go to her best friend Callie’s house and staying there for the weekend. Callie had ruined those plans. “Callie, why do you have a guy over, we had a plan. Did you happen to forget”? She heard nothing on the other end of the line, making her pull her cell phone away from her ear to check if it was still connected on the call. She heard Callie sigh, “Sage, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize he was going to be coming over tonight. I’ll make it up to you I promise.” The phone call then ended causing Sage to get even more pissed off at Callie. How could you do that to your best friend? Sage was parked in a parking lot of some convenient store. She looked around for a minute trying to figure out what to do with herself now. She called a hotel and got a room for the night. She went to the hotel and brought her bag in with her. The hotel had a four-star rating, so she was very happy for that. She got into the room, dropped her bag off and went back down to the desk. She lived three hours away from Callie. So, when she went over, she brought everything with her, because she was going to be gone the whole weekend. She got to the front desk and saw an older woman standing at the desk, typing away on the computer. “Hi, welcome how may I help you this evening”? Sage was tired, but so mad, she needed to find a bar or some place that sells good drinks. “Hi yes, is there a bar near this hotel”? the lady explained there was a bar a block away from where they were. She gave Sage directions and the name of the bar. Sage thanked the lady and went outside to her car. She hated her car so much. It was a hammy down car from her dad. It was an older Hyundai Accent. She had gotten to the bar, and saw it stood out like a sore thumb. About three letters of the name were out, and there were a lot of people here. Sage walked inside and looked around and saw a table available. She wiped the table down with a napkin and ordered a beer. The bar smelt like the gym and moth balls. It was disgusting. She got her beer and had a drink and could tell it was watered down. ~~~~~~~ Matthew needed a drink and fast. He didn’t like the look of the bar, but he needed something. After being cooped up with twenty other men, he needed some human contact, or a drink and the drink was easier to get. He sat down on a bar stool that was to short and tiny for him. Matthew stood at six feet and five inches tall. Men coward to him and women flocked to him. He had just got home from a mission and didn’t want to go home just yet. He ordered a beer, looked around the bar, and saw a young brunette just sitting there scrolling through her phone. She must have felt him watching her, because she looked up and they caught each other’s eyes. He turned away; he didn’t need some young girl right now. He didn’t need the drama and attachment right now. Yes, he wanted contact, but the girl looked too young for him. He watched the girl out of the corner of his eye, for some reason he didn’t want anyone to bother her. Hopefully in a few minutes the girl will leave so he won’t feel like she is prey to the other men here. He happened to notice an older man was watching her every move. He knew what the man was going to do. He was going to approach her and make her go home with him. He watched as the older man, who had a long white, blond and gray beard walk over to her. He had a biker vest on, thinking he was hot shit. Matthew looked up and watched it unfold. “What is a beautiful young thing like you doing in a bar like this, you know you shouldn’t be out here late at night.” She looked up at him with those beautiful green doe eyes. Matthew saw some kind of twinkle in them. He knew if he didn’t intervene no one else would. It was the by-stander affect. “Why don’t you sit with me sweetie, I can give you all the love you will want and much more.” She shook her head no, but he didn’t take the no for answer. Matthew watched as the older man reached out and grabbed the young girl’s arm. There it was his fucking mistake he had made. Matthew got up from his bar stool and walked up to the man. He towered over the man and young girl. “Hey, my man, she doesn’t want to go with you. Leave her alone and walk away.” The guy turned at first thinking he was eye level with Matt. But in fact, when he looked at him, he only saw Matt’s chest and had to crane his neck back to look at him. He saw the man swallow and waited to see what he was going to do. The guy backed away with hands up surrendering to Matt. He watched him walk back to his stool. He looked down at the young girl, “you ok”? She stared at him with
