On summer nights like this, it could get windy, and I really enjoyed the delicate tremors that raced through me whenever the cold air seeped into my skin, regardless of my mood. Tonight, I was inside, though, for a good reason. I couldn’t get rid of the tingles in the pit of my stomach even though I had spent the past hour working on dinner for my best friends who happened to be my bosses. In a short time, they would be back from evening practice, and I always liked dinner to be served right on time, so they didn’t have to eat late after their training. I was halfway through the bottle of red wine on the table now, and my entire body hummed already. Excitement and heightened senses made me feel like I was floating. Different thoughts waltzed through my mind, and it all blended right into one fact. My upcoming date night. The steam in the kitchen was enough to heat my already flushed skin as I paused stirring the sauce and glanced at the watch on my hand. Six thirty p.m. Thirty more minutes and the doorbell would chime loud to announce their arrival. I shivered in anticipation because I couldn’t wait to share the good news with them. Aiden, Colt, and Knox were my best friends. We first met in middle school when I tried to join the school’s cheerleading team. Colt had been the first to approach me out of the trio and we had bonded quickly before I became friends with his brothers too. Eighteen years had passed since we first became friends, and there was still not a dull moment with them. They were the first people I talked to, and our friendship could only grow stronger as the years rolled by. While I cooked, I let my mind drift away from the triplets and back to the source of the flutters in the pit of my stomach. I’m going on a date… I nearly squealed with the thought, but I pressed my lips together to hold back the chuckle about to roll off my lips. Mitchell Cooper was my high school crush and meeting him again now was like a dream come true. Even though years had passed since I last saw him, he still looked the same, with the brownest shade of eyes I had ever seen, and long brown hair he liked to tie in a ponytail. It made him look casual but so hot all the time. Like a rockstar. My insides were still tingling when I heard the chime I’d been expecting. Knox and Aiden’s voices followed soon as they entered the house, they were laughing about something. I could hear the baritone in their tones all the way from the kitchen, and my pulse jumped when they called my name. “Ollie,” Knox called as I took off the apron and hurried out of the kitchen to greet them. He was grinning when I got to the living room. “Tell Aiden he’s not taller than I am,” he said as he looked at me. He had the bluest shade of eyes of the triplets. His were electrifying, and it always made me shiver when I stared deeper into them. We all liked to refer to him as the charmer, since he was a ladies’ man. “Uh… He kind of is taller than you, though,” I told Knox, and Aiden burst into a full laugh. Knox punched Aiden playfully on the shoulder, and as we all shared a laugh, I cleared my throat to gain their attention. “Where’s Colt?” I asked first. They looked at me and shrugged at the same time. Aiden answered first. “Still practicing. You know how he gets when we have a game.” “Right,” I said, then stifled another giggle. My head swooned just from the short walk from the kitchen to the living room, and it made me realize I had drunk way too much wine already. I didn’t mind anyway; I was happy tonight. Knox noticed my excitement first and he arched a brow. “What’s making you flushed?” “Yeah, she’s a bit flushed, isn’t she?” “Guys…” I began, drawing out my word for a second before I dramatically clapped and said, “I got a date with Mitchell Cooper.” They both froze for an instant. Their eyes narrowed, and Aiden was the first to break the silence. “Mitchell who?” “That guy from high school?” Knox asked as he arched a brow. “The one you’ve had a crush on for, like, years?” came Aiden’s voice again. “You asked him out?” they chorused. “Chill out, guys,” I replied, then laughed nervously and shook my head. “Of course I didn’t.” How could they even think that I had? Apart from them, I was nervous whenever I was around any man. Why else would I still have my v-card? At first, I had wanted to wait for the right person, but I guess I ended up waiting too long. After high school came culinary school and time was little to none. After that, when I tried getting into the dating scene, went on dates or hung out with anyone else besides my friends, I started feeling really nervous. So, now I hardly even went on dates. Most of my time was spent working my shifts at restaurants and working for my friends, who were also my roommates. They had employed me straight out of culinary school, and I had lived with and worked for them ever since. God, even the thought of dating makes me nervous. I wasn’t ashamed of my body or anything, but other
