It feels like I can finally breathe when I am out of the building and away from the still and dry air-conditioned air. I reach my hand to my ponytail to release it, but then decide that it will make the light breeze out there more enjoyable. It is already dark now, the streetlamps make my shadow long. I take another step and a shiver runs down my spine. There is something in the air that tinkles. Someone, something special is around me and I... may not like them. From the rear mirror of a car that drives by. No one is behind me. The night shift people won’t bother me with that scent. But I have no idea what that is about. I hurry to cross the road and get into the parking lot. There aren’t many cars left there. My car is in a nice clearing when there aren’t others around mine. A few cars are at the sides and corners, none are close by. Behind the barbed wire in the parking lot, it seemed there is no one there. I get through the entrance, giving the security guard a nod. Hm... there is no one at the stand. Maybe they are off surveying the place. I glance at the parking lot again. It is dark out there, but it has always been and it has never bothered me before. A shadow approaches me. I turn and am about to pull my gun when something jabs into my waist. I wince to expect pain, but that isn’t coming. When I open my eyes, there is a man there not even a step away from me. He is right in my face. A thin and tall one in casual wear. Something about him... smells familiar, but still... someone that jabs my stomach with a short gun can’t be here to socialize. He hisses. “The boss wants to see you.” I swallow. Maybe I should have expected this. “You don’t have to point a gun at me like this. I will go with you. Did he know this is what you are doing?” He snickers. “Do you think I will do stuff he doesn’t approve of? I’m not that brave. Not like someone. Get going.” “You have to tell me where to go. Get the gun off me.” He smirks. The gun on my waist doesn’t even move an inch. “Maybe you should read the air and remember what you have done. You don’t get to request anything. I have the boss’s explicit approval to knock you out and bring you back if it comes to that. So I consider this,” he nudges the gun deeper into my waist, “very nice for someone like you.” This doesn’t sound good at all. The boss must be pissed at me, which I’m not surprised about. I nod. “Okay, if that’s what you want, then let’s keep it. Where are we going?” He nods to my car. “We’ll drive you there.” This fucker decides to drive my car? “Are you insane? They will know where we are. You will ruin everything. Is that also his explicit approval?” He shrugs. “Apparently, that’s what the boss wants.” What the hell is happening? I thought the last thing that man wants is to get on the radar of the police, which means driving my car to a strange place when the police can track my car, which is a work car and not exactly my own. He wraps an arm across me as if we are dating or something — when viewed from behind. From the front, he is still stabbing me with the gun. He smells of stronger cigarettes now. It was faint, but now... I grimace when he laughs, clearly seeing my expression. He says, “Feel free to hate, but I don’t care. If you keep thinking the boss doesn’t dare to touch you, you are dead wrong.” There’s no one the boss will be scared enough to not touch. I know that man... Maybe... just maybe... I won’t even get a chance to step out of wherever this man is bringing me to alive. I say, “Let’s get going.
