Bringing the hottest little pop-rocket on the internet to launch our newest venue hasn’t been easy. Her agent said she had other plans, but I have money, which usually overrides ‘plans’ when it comes to young talent. The venue, a joint venture between Miles and me, has more seats than any other on the strip. It’s going to be the biggest arena in Vegas’ history. It has my name on it, my brand, and it will house the biggest stars in the world. When I came to Mile’s with this idea, I had a plan to dominate the market and overtake even my own existing venues. Now as the final touches are being made to the arena and the ink is dry on her contract, I can celebrate. The hardest part is over. Now we just need little miss Stella to wow the crowds with her skimpy outfits, suggestive dance moves, and angelic voice. I have no doubt she will be able to deliver—I have watched her perform and know she has the stage presence to pull it off. “Cheers.” Miles toasts, popping the cork off a thousand-dollar bottle of champagne. “To the start of a very lucrative venture.” He knows having Stella here will put his casino front and center above all others. “Cheers.” I clink glasses with him and take a sip while looking out of his office window to the roof of the stunning domes of the arena below us. “It’s taken a while, but we’re finally ready. She arrives today. A month of rehearsals and stage practice before we open. It’ll go by in a blink.” “I know I own the joint…” Miles says, “…and it shouldn’t even be an issue, but I know we have been sold out for weeks already. Milly asked if we could get tickets to opening night?” I turn to my friend and frown. He’s so smitten with Milly that he has not being paying attention to life recently. “Uh, you have tickets to every show. You can do what you like with them. It’s part of owning the venue.” He’s got his head in the clouds or up his ass. “Your assistant has all the information.” Miles shakes his head and says. “Thanks.” While he refills his glass, he adds, “That will make Milly happy.” “What? You’re not excited to watch Stella?” I mock him with a chuckle. “I am a bit old for Stella.” “Stella is older than Milly. I don’t think that’s the issue.” He gives me a side-eye. “You just have no taste in music. It’s okay. I am sure Milly will fix that.” Miles had been different since she came barreling into his life. It’s as if he is finally living. “Some woman is going to come along and ruin you, Vincent, then I am going to laugh,” he says. No woman has been able to hold my attention for more than ten seconds in a long time. I am married to my work. I need a strong woman that isn’t going to be self-conscious or jealous. My job means I rub shoulders with very beautiful women all the time. I cannot have a jealous lady making my life complicated. I will know the right one if she ever came along. Until then, I am happy with how I do things. “I doubt there’s a woman out there that could put up with my life.” I brush off his comment, and he shrugs. “Are you coming with me to meet the starlet this afternoon?” I ask. “No can do. I have a fully booked hotel and a casino to run. Besides schmoozing, the talent is your thing,” Miles says, downing his champagne and sitting back down at his desk. “I think I can trust you to manage it.” He’s put a huge amount of trust in me, and this venture has required him to invest millions, all in good faith that I can pull off managing it. “How hard could it be.” I joke. Having dealt with stars for years, I know they can be full of shit. Stella’s manager seems to have a handle on her. This is a good move for my career. “She’s a kid.” Miles smiles and looks at me from his desk. “Yeah, careful, those kids…they’ll make you do things.” I doubt I’d be as easily sucked into that trap as he was. I finish my second glass of champagne and say goodbye to Miles. The helicopter carrying my little superstar is almost here, and I’d like to be on the roof to greet her when she touches down. The elevator ride from Miles’ office to the casino rooftop is short, and when I get there, his security team is already on standby. We have tried to keep Stella’s arrival out of the press so she can settle in without being pestered. The heat up here is almost unbearable as the sun blazes down on me.
