While this is a complete standalone set in the same world, I do believe it is better enjoyed if you read the two previous first – if you don’t want to, that’s fine, it will still make sense. I always say that I don’t classify myself as a dark romance author – because I don’t write the themes that generally accompany that genre (unaliving, torture, MC, gang, mafia, etc.) but there are themes woven throughout this book that makes it on the darker side of contemporary romance. This is not a soft, vanilla or sunshiney book. Our “hero” is damaged. He suffers with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, substance abuse, addiction and more. For a complete list of content warnings (which may contain slight spoilers) please see the next section. I always recommend going into my books blind, because I write them so you have wtf moments – but as someone who also has some intense triggers, I understand if you need a list. Please remember that everyones experiences with mental illness and drugs/alcohol are different! This book stems from my own experiences with both, and it may not align with yours. We are all different, and that’s what makes us human. I hope by the end of this book, you love Hayden Monroe and his journey. You won’t love him on every page (some of you might, I do.) Give Hayden a chance and try to give him the benefit of the doubt. Mental health issues are hard, and so are addiction issues. Trust the process, there is a HEA at the end. We all have to take our Content warning This is a romance novel intended for readers over the age of 18, and contains graphically sexual scenes. This is a ‘reverse’ age gap novel. This is a student-teacher novel. All characters that engage in sex are over eighteen. There is a graphic sexual scene between Hayden and someone who is not our heroine before they get together. Hayden toes the line between being a dick and being mentally abusive to our heroine. There is drunk driving in this novel. Our characters abuse drugs and alcohol. There are quite a few time-jumps in this novel. Those are the big ones that people tend to steer away from, but heres some more: Death of a parent (x3), underage drinking, mention of a step-sibling relationship (where my carson & logan fans at?), scenes with MM, drugs use & drug addiction, explicit sexual scenes.
