 Chapter 69: Coming Scripture

But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake,
you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy,
always being prepared to make a defense to anyone
 who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you;
yet do it with gentleness and respect.
 1 Peter 3:14-15 (ESV)

Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house
or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands,
for my sake and for the gospel,
who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time,
houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands,
with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.
 Mark 10:29-30 (ESV)

And we know that for those who love God
all things work together for good,
for those who are called according to his purpose.
 Romans 8:28 (ESV)

 Dedication

To my children, Paul and Lydia,
for their love, support, and encouragement
 and my new granddaughter, Payton,
for the joy she brings to our lives.
And especially to my husband, Jim,
 whose love and encouragement
 make every burden lighter.

And most of all, to Jesus.

 Soli Deo gloria.

 A Note from the Author
Skepticism and resistance. For many, that’s their initial reaction to anything related to Jesus. For some, it’s social conditioning from a childhood where no one at home or school or in the media ever said anything positive about God. For others, it stems from seeing how suffering touches everyone, whether they believe in Jesus or not.
When God’s answer to prayer is no and suffering or death comes to someone we love, it’s natural to ask why.
For those who believe, who know the reality of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we may not like how something ends, but we trust there’s more going on than we can see. Somehow, God is working all things together for good for those who love Him.
The more I see of life, the more I can look back and glimpse the greater good that came from what only seemed bad at the time.
But for those who don’t know God, who haven’t recognized
