She’s been avoiding the clock for as long as possible, what you can’t see can’t hurt you after all. “You know what Brian? Right now, I need a supportive boss. How about you say things like, ‘you’ll make your flight, Phoebe!’ and ‘I believe in your ability to pack two months worth of shit in…’” She glances up, wincing. “Forty minutes? Jesus…” “You’re a disaster.” Even on the other end of the line, she can practically see him shaking with laughter. “Even without heavy traffic, you might still be fucked.” Phoebe sighs as she shoves a pair of underwear into her suitcase. “Listen, Brian, I feel like we’re not communicating properly. Remember how encouraging and life-affirming you used to be? I need that Brian with me right now. Come on, give me a solid ‘You can do it, Miller!’” “Listen, as long as you have your notes, you can pick up the rest on the road. You do have your notes, right? All that prep-work?” She grunts as she crams everything into her suitcase, praying that she doesn’t damage anything in the process. “I’ve got my tape recorder, typewriter, extra paper, three notebooks, pens, camera, and ten rolls of film… all the work stuff. Did that all last night while I was on the phone with Mr. Sullivan.” Now, if only she could close the damn suitcase and get it zipped up. “Perfect,” Brian replies. “Look Phoebe, I’m just really happy you took this assignment. It’s a great fit, and I think you’ll knock it out of the park.” “Well, I must admit, it’s better than album reviews, which… you’ve kept me on for a whole year.” “I know,” Brian sighs. “I know.
