Come near me again and I’ll end you.” I knew better than to think he’d just let me walk away, but I managed to get all the way to the parking lot without him following me and I took full advantage, dropping into my seat and taking off the second I could. I’d been preparing for this. I knew he’d expect me to go home to pack, which was why I’d been toting my stuff around in my car for the last week. The only reason I stuck around was because Quinn was going through something. She was obviously being well taken care of, so I didn’t need to stick around anymore. I bypassed the turn off for my street and kept going, heading straight out of town. I didn’t know exactly where I was going, but I knew I wasn’t staying here. I didn’t sign up for this life and I was tired of living on my brother’s terms. It was getting late, the sun setting already, so I had that going for me. Moving under the cover of darkness meant it’d be harder for Zayne to follow me if he managed to catch up to me. I had a pretty big lead, but that meant very little when it came to my brother. Ex special forces, Sergeant at Arms to one of the most notorious motorcycle clubs in the country, he was a difficult person to hide from. I didn’t stop until I absolutely had to, pulling over at a gas station to fill up my tank. It was past midnight by now and the place was mostly empty, but after years under Zayne’s thumb, I learned to be cautious. I kept the keys in my pocket, all doors locked except the driver’s door, and remained vigilant. When nothing bad happened, I felt a little annoyed with myself. This was one reason I left. I was tired of living waiting for the worst-case scenario. People weren’t automatically bad, like Zayne assumed. Putting the pump back, I leaned into the front seat to grab my wallet. I figured I might as well grab a snack while I was here. I skipped dinner because I didn’t want to give Zayne a chance to catch up with me and my stomach was starting to eat itself. Besides, it’d help keep me awake. “Well, well, well… Look at this little treat presented so nicely for me. I must be dreaming.” Dread settled over me and I felt my body tense as whoever was speaking approached me. The universe just loved to prove me wrong. Reaching under the front seat, I grabbed the gun I kept there. My brother taught me how to shoot when he got back from his time in the military. He wanted me to know how to protect myself. It was coming in handy now. I flicked off the safety and flipped over, pointing it at the asshole behind me. He came up short, his eyes glued to my weapon, and his hands went up when I cocked it. “Touch me and I’ll put a bullet between your eyes.” He scowled but said nothing. Jerking my chin, I forced him to take a few steps back, past the pump, to give me some breathing room as I edged out of the car. If I wasn’t careful, I could accidentally hit the pump and kill us all. I didn’t want that on my conscience. “You’re a bitch. I was gonna show you a good time.” I scoffed. “Stop kidding yourself. The only way you’re getting a woman is by force. Now fuck off before I decide to rid the world of one more asshole and call it an accident.” He sneered, and he looked like he was about to argue with me, but out of nowhere, a fist slammed into his face and he hit the ground hard. I jerked my gaze to the person who interfered, fury ripping through my system when I realized who it was. “God damnit, Caleb!” He didn’t even look at me, grabbing the asshole by the front of his shirt and pounding on him. I’d be impressed if I wasn’t so pissed off. Apparently Zayne wasn’t willing to come looking for me himself, so he sent a member of his crew instead. That member just happened to be the man who tore my heart to shreds when I was seventeen and joined the same crew as my brother a few months later. Things couldn’t get any worse than this. Caleb looked like he was unwilling to stop until the asshole was dead, but I was pretty sure this place had cameras and I wasn’t looking to go down as an
