Reviewers may quote brief passages in a review. Seth can’t believe that he’s about to spend New Year’s Eve at Clark’s estate. It’ll be just the two of them, alone for the night, and Seth is stupidly eager to spend more time with the confident and charming older man who has for some reason taken an interest in him. Not even a run-in with Jake, Seth’s jerk of a housemate, can dampen Seth’s excitement. But when Seth finds out something Clark has been hiding from him, Seth panics at the possibilities. Scared and feeling all too vulnerable, Seth has to flee. He ends up back home… where Jake is all too happy to take advantage of Seth’s newly freed-up evening. And Jake won’t be taking no for answer… His Possession has a 3 dove rating. Visit Dove’s website for more information on the Dove Scale. Contents Chapter One Chapter Two Chapter Three Chapter Four Chapter One Seth got home from his half day at work a mixture of nervous and excited. Having had to work today, at least partly, had been helpful in keeping him busy and distracted, and not thinking about what would be happening that evening. Because it was December 31st, New Year’s eve. And Seth had a date. Or at least, something that kind of felt like it could be a date, all things considered. There weren’t a lot of other ways to interpret it. Seth had been invited to spend New Year’s Eve—and stay the night—at Clark’s house. Clark, who was the handsome, wealthy older gentleman who had for some reason taken an interest in Seth. Clark, who seemed to enjoy paying him attention, calling him sweet and good, and touching Seth like it was Clark’s right to do so. It was a baffling disruption to Seth’s small world. Seth had only known Clark for a few weeks now, but there was something about the man that was magnetic. Seth couldn’t help but be drawn in by his confidence and charm, the way he spoke so assuredly, the way he smiled like he knew a secret that others didn’t. When Seth was near him, he couldn’t look away. He’d never met anyone like Clark. It was probably a little pathetic how eager Seth was about tonight. They’d be spending New Year’s Eve and day together, just the two of them, at Clark’s estate. Clark was sending his driver Daniel to pick Seth up in just a couple hours, and then they’d have the rest of the afternoon and evening together. It sounded cozy and intimate, and just the thought of having Clark’s attention on him again had been driving Seth to distraction. He wanted to make a good impression, was the thing. Clark had seen him at work, had seen him building a trampoline and sewing a button, but on all those occasions Seth had been working, kind of. He’d been on task, dressed however he was dressed. But this felt like something special, and he wanted to look… nicer. Seth sifted through his closet, and kept coming back to the same meager options. He’d have to choose the dress pants Clark had given him the last time, and in order to not be wearing the exact same outfit Clark had given him when Seth was over before, a slightly less nice sweater. For the first time in a long time, Seth felt dissatisfied with his wardrobe. He’d never needed anything better than what he had, mostly jeans and well-worn Ts and hoodies, but the lack of anything truly nice to wear was frustrating now. With needing to pack an outfit for tomorrow as well, Seth was forced to just choose his nicest, least worn jeans and a black hoodie because he didn’t have any other options. Well, it would have to do for now. He put his clothes for tomorrow in his backpack and left his clothes for tonight on his bed, gathering up his shower supplies. The bathroom was a collective bathroom, and that meant it was often messy. To bring a nice pair of pants in there was asking to get a toothpaste stain on them, so best to leave them here and come back to get dressed. Seth sped through his shower routine, doing his best to scrub every bit of himself clean. He had a tiny packet of a fancy shampoo that he’d been saving for a special occasion, and he used that now. It smelled nice, light and fresh and with a touch of sweetness, and that was all Seth could hope for. He couldn’t imagine it would be all that impressive to someone like Clark, but Seth still wanted to make an effort. To show Clark that he had tried. Of course, thinking of Clark getting close enough to notice Seth’s hair made Seth blush hot. He ignored the instinct to turn the water to cold, because he knew that he’d be freezing as soon as he stepped out of the shower anyway. Instead he let himself have a few more seconds of the warm water of the shower before he shut off the tap and grabbed his towel. He dried himself off in a hurry. He wasn’t wrong about being freezing. The steam of the shower settled on his skin and he could already feel the cold air of the house permeating through the door gaps. It would be a shivery walk
