For ten years I've been my younger sister's only guardian since a horrific car crash left our parents dead and the pair of us traumatized. I've done everything to keep her happy and safe, but I couldn't keep her safe from billionaire playboy Felix Barclay. When I find her lifeless body with a note addressed to me, framing Felix as the reason she killed herself, I vow revenge. However one wrong move and I'm dead too. I'm lost in Hell and my sister is nowhere to be found. But, there's no way out of Hell, not unless you compete in the Inferno Games, a deadly, treacherous event where survival isn't guaranteed and you'll be lucky to come out with your soul and your sanity intact. What I haven't counted on are the other competitors who will stop at nothing to win. The billionaire asshole who put my sister here, the insanely magnetic Remy Bradford and the dangerously dark Dade Angelis who will stop at nothing to secure his place in the next round of the games, no matter what it takes. Not to mention the myriad of demons that inhabit hell, all of which enjoy seeing me hurt. Blood will spill and souls will be taken. I only hope that mine won’t be among them. Inferno Games is book one in a series that will follow the circles of Hell: Purgatory, Lust, Gluttony, Avarice, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, Treachery and finally, the ninth circle where Satan himself is waiting to collect your soul. The book contains dark themes, violence, loss and scenes of an adult nature. See my website www.eliseknight.com for triggers Want more? Only the roof and the top floor are visible over the seven-foot fence that surrounds it. Two massive golden lions stand sentry at each side of the huge black gates, both of them daring me try to get past them. Compensating for anything much? I swallow back the bitter taste in my mouth and jab my finger onto the button of a speaker next to the gates, glaring into the camera. The speaker crackles for an instant and then the voice of a man comes through. He has a clipped English accent like some kind of lord right out of Downton Abbey or Bridgerton. “Deliveries through the staff entrance round the back.” I finger my sister Jenny’s last letter to me, safely in my pocket, and with the anger of the gods, hammer at the button again...hard. “I’m here to see Felix Barclay.” There’s silence for a few seconds before the voice comes through the speaker again. “Mr Barclay is away on business at the present time. You can send an email to his secretary to request a meeting, although Mr Barclay is a busy man and may not be able to grace you with his company. Good day.” My heart thunders in my chest as I stare at the camera, resisting the overwhelming urge to yank it right off the wall. I know damn well Barclay is in. I’ve been watching his house for the last hour. Ten minutes ago, he’d pulled in through these very gates in a red convertible which no doubt cost more than mine and Jenny’s apartment... My apartment. I need to stop referring to Jenny in the present tense. It was Jenny’s and my apartment. Now, it’s mine alone and the fucker who is the reason Jenny is in the past tense is currently hiding behind his hired help and his stupid fucking lions. A wave of fury sweeps through me at being dismissed so easily. If I can’t get in through traditional means, I’ll have to be more resourceful. With one last look at the camera, I rather churlishly extend my middle finger with the hope Lord-stick-up-his-ass is still watching. The boundaries of Felix’s house touch up against the next house with the tall, black fence making way to another fence, equally as tall. The whole street is like a beautiful prison for rich assholes with
