My chest heaves up and down with my rapid breathing. Adrenaline is coursing through my body, putting my senses on high alert. I peek around, barely catching sight of a body dart behind a wall. I take a deep breath and blow it out before rushing to the next object I can use for cover. When I'm three feet away, someone pops out and takes aim at me. I drop down, tuck, and roll behind another barrier. Tugging the gun against my chest, I suck in a few deep breaths. I squeeze my eyes shut, hoping it will heighten my sense of hearing, but I can barely make out anything over my own breathing. I listen closely and wait. Soft footsteps close in on me. I take one last deep breath then jump out, shooting as fast as I can at my enemy. Wide eyes stare back at me as her mouth falls open. The loud horn blares and the lights come back on, temporarily blinding both of us.“You suck! I almost had you!” Sammie wines. A smug smile tugs on the corner of my lips as I throw my arm around her shoulders. We mosey back to the desk to hand in our vest and laser tag guns.“Aww, it’s cute you think that. I’d never let you win though.” I ruffle her hair just to piss her off.“You’re such a horrible best friend!” Sammie shoves at me, but with my arm around her, we both stumble.“Nah, I'm an awesome best friend. Good friends let you win. Best friends cream you and force you to improve your skills by challenging you.”“You’re so full of shit!”“See!
