GLOSSARY Omegaverse: A societal structure dependent on the hierarchy of Alphas, Betas, and Omegas, where Alphas rule, Omegas submit, and Betas worship them both. In the world of Fortune Fae, not all Omegas follow the rules. Fortune Fae: A race of fae who have abandoned their origins and embraced the study of the Web. They are capable of reading the future, making prophecies, and confusing the shit out of anyone who is dumb enough to listen! The Fortune Fae came into existence when fae realized they could reject their Source of magic and embrace an evolved form of existence. There is an undisclosed number of realms with various types of fae, not limited to but including Elemental Fae with five Sources that control the elements, as well as Midnight Fae who are connected to the Dark Source and feed on human blood. The Web: The literal fabric of space and time that keeps the universe intact. Fortune Fae have the ability to witness and manipulate the threads of time to their own benefit—or detriment. It is a powerful construct and can overwhelm a Fortune Fae not equipped to handle its strength, resulting in that individual being reduced to Dust and being reclaimed by the Web. Dust: Dust is what the Web is made of. For each new living creature, a new strand is created in the Web. Dust is the life force of all creatures, time, and space. Abnormality: Each living creature can act as a vessel to capture Dust like a biological net. Abnormalities are individuals who find themselves within an influx of multiple and powerful strands of time, especially when they are at the right place and right time, where a powerful decision is made that will have a large impact on the future. This can give the individual a surplus of Dust and unless they are a Fortune Fae, they will not be able to use this power directly; however, other Fortune Fae will be able to harvest it. Anomaly: Any creature or object that defies the laws of the Web. The fabric of space and time comes with a set of rules, as does the Omegaverse structure of one Alpha, one Omega, and one or more Betas to constitute a mate-circle. When these rules are broken, anomalies are created and chaos will reign. Alphas: Born as Midnight Fae, Alphas will reject their heritage and the Dark Source. By doing so, they lose dependency on a single source of power and embrace a primal state of control over the very fabric of space and time. However, this transition comes at a cost. An Alpha must feed off of the power provided by a mate-circle including at least one Omega and one Beta. An Alpha may survive by knotting Omegas without claiming them, but it is a frowned-upon practice. Regional Alpha Territories: Alphas are driven to rule and exert their control over those around them. Reigning Alphas are regularly challenged and occasionally overthrown by new Alphas and their mate-circles. Territories can be claimed across the Human Realm, Fortune Fae Realm, and other realms where living creatures can be harvested for their Dust. Fortune Fae within these territories are protected from the weight of the Web by the power of their reigning Alpha, but they will also be subjected to a regular tax in the form of Dust payments for this protection.
