It’s not that hard, Zander,” I sigh as I pinch the bridge of my nose and wish I was with anyone else. “But what if I have a knife on me and they find it.” He stares at me with wide eyes. “Did you have a knife on you when you left the house today?” I arch a brow, already knowing the answer. “No! Do these look like the hands of a man who carries a knife!” Zander holds out his baby soft hands with buffed nails and cut cuticles. “Then how would they find a knife on you?” I roll my eyes, hoping they really do find a knife on him. Then he won't be able to go on vacation with us. “How do I know some hoodlum didn’t slip it into my pocket while I was rushing through the airport!” “Why would anyone want to do that?” I move up in the line and focus on getting through security. As soon as I'm through, I can disappear for a few minutes and take a breather from dealing with Zander. “Well, imagine this…” His hands move wildly as he talks, like he’s putting on a play with just his fingers. “A man slips a knife into my pocket while I'm busy trying to figure out where the damn security is! Because this place is awful and they really need to figure out how to make signs that actually make sense and are useful, but I digress. This man knows I'm not going to make it through security and I’ll be kept from getting on the flight.” “They’d probably just take the pocket knife and throw it out.” Mason rolls his eyes as he drops his head to Kelsey’s shoulder and whispers something in her ear. She giggles and whispers back, just like she always does. “Shhh! Don’t ruin my story! Anywayyyy, before I was so rudely interrupted,” he draws out the word and sticks out his tongue at Mason. “I'm prevented from boarding my flight and now I'm separated from the people who love me most in the world!” He gasps and clutches his chest. “I'm trying to figure out where these people are so we can get you back to them as soon as possible.” I glance around the airport like I'm trying to find them. “If you keep this up, you’re gonna have to find a new assistant this week instead of having a nice relaxing vacation before work takes over your life.” Zander arches a brow at me, daring me to keep going. I wish I could find someone else to be my assistant, but he actually is really good at organizing things. He came over my house one time and saw my closet. The next time I went in there, he had organized everything perfectly. Without my permission. Actually, without my knowledge either. I still don’t know how he got into my house. “So, once I'm separated from you four and I need to find my way back home, they’re going to strike!” He claps his hands together so loudly that the woman in front of me jumps and glares at him over her shoulder. “Excuse me, this is a private conversation. If you could spin back around and talk to your own party, that would be great. Thanks.” Zander flashes her a tight smile and makes a spinning motion in the air with his finger. “Then I’ll be kidnapped and turned into a sex slave.” He shrugs like it’s the most obvious conclusion to his outrageous story. “Yeahhhh, I don’t see that happening.” Maddox shakes his head. “How many episodes of Dateline and The First 48 have you seen?” “You don’t need to be mean,” Zander hisses. “You could easily say you don’t see that happening. There’s no reason to be a smarty pants.” He folds his
