I don't think the bullet hit anything vital, but it needs to come out before it starts to heal over otherwise I’ll have to open it back up later and practically torture myself to extract it. Jane is trailing behind Maddox and I keep her in my sights as we follow him through his mansion. ‘Where exactly are we?’ she asks me. ‘Europe, I think,’ I say vaguely with a roll of my eyes, but hers widen. ‘I always wanted to go to Europe,’ she murmurs to herself in a wistful tone. Then, she frowns. ‘Maybe I should have been more specific.’ I bite back a snort of amusement. She's funnier than I gave her credit for at first. Maddox leads us down a grand staircase complete with white marble bannisters and matching floors. I glance up and find a vibrant mural of the heavens above our heads, cherubs with tiny wings and golden harps perched on fluffy clouds, gilded panels of gold and intricate plaster moldings that look like they've recently been painted. And I thought our Clubhouse was ostentatious. We walk down a wide corridor and through a solid, oak door that creaks loudly as it opens and looks like it’s five-hundred years old. Jane winces a little. But I'm not Sie. I'm not covering her ears just so she doesn't hear a noise she doesn’t like. Suck it up, buttercup. I’m practically trailing blood around the house over here. The room is cozy in comparison with the drafty hallway with a large, stone hearth and a roaring fire. I realize too late that Maddox’s entire crew are in here too. Jayce and Krase – the twins who make me look sane – are both eating … are those sundaes? Iron is sitting in a huge chair, looking foreboding even to me. I've heard some very dark stories about him over the years that rival even my own. And there’s Axel by one of the three tall windows. As far as I can tell, he’s the equivalent of Sie. The dude is big and quiet, and I heard he's not all there either. But that's what they say about me, so maybe ‘they’ don’t know shit. ‘What the fuck did you bring her here for?’ Iron spits. ‘Hey!’ one of the twins shouts, throwing the spoon in his hand at Iron. It bounces off the arm of his chair and the big man glares. But I’m more concerned with how the twins are staring at Jane. The hungry looks in their eyes have a low growl leaving my throat. My glamour flickers, showing them my true form in all its pitch-black glory. They glance at each other meaningfully. Yeah. Do you really want to start something with me now? Even with the hole in my back, I'll wipe the floor with both of them. Then I get a scent that almost brings me to my knees. Jane. A very turned-on Jane. The twins aren’t scared of me, they can smell her. I move between them, cutting off their line of sight to her while trying to work out which of them has her excited. It seemed like a good idea to bring her here when the choice was a mansion or a war zone, but this place comes with its own dangers; ones I hadn’t anticipated in my rush to leave Metro. ‘I was hoping you'd made a deal for her,’ the other twin complains to their leader. Maddox ignores them both, glancing at Axel instead. ‘Keep your ear to the ground in case the problems spread across the pond,’ he says. ‘I don’t fancy
