JACKSON "You know it's creepy when you stalk your ex like that," I tell my best friend, Alessio, who is all but missing a pair of binoculars and a hat to stalk his ex-fiancé. The infamous Brooklyn Daniels struts down the street unaware that we’re watching her from a distance like two fucked up guardian angels. This is one of her favorite clubs to perform at when she needs to get noticed by her targets. “Shut up,” he grumbles, taking in her long trench coat and heels like some cliché escort in an old movie. I regard her. Alessio has fallen for quite the woman. How did he manage to find her at some state college in Virginia? A woman like her deserves to be on the cover of magazines or on some rich guy’s arm, lavished with gifts. But with her current habit of sleeping with anything that walks, I’d say she was close to it. I look over to my ghost of a best friend, exiled from the public world. I’ve been his friend for almost seven years, killed far too many men with him, and shared many drinks in between. A stoic man born on these Italian lands who set his sights on America for bigger, higher paying jobs. I’ve seen a lot in my life, but a love-stricken puppy is something I will never wrap my head around. "It's already been three years and you're still watching her like a hawk. How long are you going to keep this up, Alessio?" He points over at her, ignoring me, like the last three long years. "Look! She's not even paying attention to the security cameras. They could easily identify her if they wanted to." Alessio, since his little spat with Dain, the bastard leader of Nervance, has a habit of being Brooklyn's little guardian angel whenever she's in Italy. Which happens to be a lot. By the looks of things, if it was up to him, he would follow her to the ends of the earth, but he can't leave Italy because his old boss would find him, he said. Alessio told me something along the lines that if Dain grew suspicious that Alessio was alive, they would find him in an instant. I don’t know why we won’t just kill the son of a bitch. It would be easy, just one bullet and everything goes back to the way it was. But I was quickly shot down, told that Dain is too powerful, with the Tanaka family backing him. I shudder just thinking of Keiko and how easily she managed to kill her targets, and not to mention Henry . . . The little kid spotted me like it was nothing; damn near blew my head off with that assault rifle of his. So, with all these unfortunate factors, I have to take a plane ride with two necessary layovers while being on one too many drugs to be able to see Alessio. And like a dumbass, I assume we’re going to drink, party, maybe even sleep with some beautiful women, but instead I’m just an accomplice to stalking Brooklyn and cleaning up her messes. She’s a good assassin, an even better seductress, but she could be better. She’s reckless, far too noticeable, and manages to catch everyone’s eyes when she walks by. If she were a better assassin maybe Alessio would calm the fuck down and live a little. He may be a ghost, but he doesn’t have to act like one. Brooklyn doesn't think and never pays attention to her surroundings. Which makes me wonder, how the hell does she survive missions outside of Alessio's constant surveillance? Brooklyn tightens her trench coat and walks into the strip club. The florescent lights shining down onto her skin makes Alessio’s jaw drop. I saw her performances; she has a gift.
