This is a dark romance. Rhys is not Prince Charming; he’s controlling, cruel, callous. He also happens to be the guy Violet wants. Violet is certainly not a saint either. Not only do they fit together; they deserve each other. Now, about the triggers. Presumably, you’ve survived Suck it Up, so let’s gloss over all of those themes, and say: you’ll find the exact same tropes. Additionally: Fuck it Up occurs in two different timelines. It mostly happens in the present, where the characters are respectively around nineteen and twenty-one, but there are a lot of scenes back when they’re both high school students. Those students are very much sexually active, drinking, taking drugs, and a long grocery list of things you wouldn’t want your kid to do. If that’s a problem, this book isn’t for you. If you can remember that this is fiction, and that teenagers are pretty obsessed with all those stuff, jump in! Another note: many characters in this book are bisexual. The trope was broached in Suck it Up, but it’s explored in more details here. Sexual discovery, as a general rule, is a huge theme in this book. The bathroom is spectacular, steel gray, with gold accents. I eye the deep, freestanding tub in the middle. Hell, yes! “You’d be much more comfortable at home, sweetheart,” my mother wheedles.
