This is a dark romance. Rhys is not Prince Charming; he’s controlling, cruel, callous. He also happens to be the guy Violet wants. Violet is certainly not a saint either. Not only do they fit together; they deserve each other. Now, about the triggers. Presumably, you’ve survived Suck it Up, so let’s gloss over all of those themes, and say: you’ll find the exact same tropes. Additionally: Fuck it Up occurs in two different timelines. It mostly happens in the present, where the characters are respectively around nineteen and twenty-one, but there are a lot of scenes back when they’re both high school students. Those students are very much sexually active, drinking, taking drugs, and a long grocery list of things you wouldn’t want your kid to do. If that’s a problem, this book isn’t for you. If you can remember that this is fiction, and that teenagers are pretty obsessed with all those stuff, jump in! Another note: many characters in this book are bisexual. The trope was broached in Suck it Up, but it’s explored in more details here. Sexual discovery, as a general rule, is a huge theme in this book. So, without further ado, the long list of potential triggers… Please skip to avoid spoilers if you don’t think you need to read it! ⁃ Morally gray protagonists ⁃ The main characters will fuck other people. They will not cheat on each other, as everyone is aware and consent to their dalliance, but they’re swingers ⁃ This is not Reverse Harem. This is a romance book with one couple as the endgame ⁃ Underage characters acting like actual unsupervised teens (parties, sex, alcohol, mention of drug usage…) ⁃ Dub con ⁃ Coercion ⁃ Cheating (not between the main characters!) ⁃ Sharing ⁃ Sword crossing (a man having sex with a man) ⁃ Bisexual characters ⁃ Foursomes ⁃ Orgies ⁃ Gangbang ⁃ Edging ⁃ Bondage ⁃ Depression / suicide theme Prologue The funny thing about monsters: they’re the heroes of their own stories. To him, I was the villain. That’s how he justified everything he did to me. I have bad news for you, sweetheart. There are far worst monsters than me in your life, and some are salivating to claim their pound of flesh. PART ONE The Enemies Chapter One “This place is tiny,” my mother pouts, looking around my perfectly comfortable dorm room. Count on her to consider a space measuring three hundred square feet ‘small’. From the black canopy bed to the pale curtains billowing at the windows, it’s perfect, though it looks more like a fancy hotel suite than a college student’s dorm. I need to stock up on pillows and throws to give the place some color, but neutral cream and wood decor notwithstanding, I love it. I would have loved it for no other reason than it’s not my mother’s house. I was adamant about residing on campus. The Cornwell estate is just a twenty-minute ride, so my mother tried to make me move back there, but my scholarship includes housing, so I won that argument. “It’s over twice as big as my boarding school dorms, and I don’t even have to share here.” I used to have a roommate. “And there’s even an en suite!” I marvel, taking a peek inside. The bathroom is spectacular, steel gray, with gold accents. I eye the deep, freestanding tub in the middle. Hell, yes! “You’d be much more comfortable at home, sweetheart,” my mother wheedles. Most people would be. Her husband’s house is enormous, with a heated outdoor pool and a second one in the basement, a game room, a home theater, and everything any eighteen-year-old would dream about. Too bad I’m done with dreams. “I would not.” My tone accepts no argument. In truth, if I couldn’t have a place in the dorm, I would have stayed in Florida. I can barely stand the Cornwells’ beautiful house, and all the memories its white walls hold. I’ve spent two years actively trying to forget them. “Is this about the time you saw Henry and I in the kitchen?” Melissa Rothford-Cornwell asks, her
